  1. "The handle of the water kettles may loosen or break off entirely during use. In isolated cases, the product defect may cause hot water to spill from the kettle, creating a risk of scalding injuries to the user or bystanders in the immediate area, including small children.

  6. My jug (Electric kettle) has just died. What's a good one? I use it regularly, every day so cost isn't as important as reliability, speed, ease of use and maybe beauty.
    Edit: 2 more criteria:
*No frickin bright LEDs, especially not blue!
*Ideally no plastic filter on the pouring spout. We noticed that this part on a friend's old kettle had disintegrated to basically nothing meaning their boiling water had likely had added plastic granules for some years.
Edit 2: Is there such a thing as a kettle with a warranty of greater than 2 years?

  11. On Half Litre Kettles and Tea Drinking

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

For years I thought, "I want a smaller kettle so I can boil enough for a cup of tea or to make coffee, without throwing out two thirds to three quarters of the water I boiled. For years I thought that getting a smaller kettle was a waste of money, as they are often more expensive than larger ones. That is, until a certain person was elected for a second time and that nation showed real hatred towards the entire world.

    No Flies Attracted with Vinegar

It's at this point that I thought "Why should I get products from Country A when it arrests people for not being of the right nationality and punishes people from not buying locally. Let's remember that the world blindly uses phones, computers, operating systems, drinks, books, films and a lot more from that nation. If everyone was as xenophobic as that nation, then that nation would no longer be a world power, but that's a distraction.

The advantage of a small kettle is that you boil enough water for one cup of coffee or one tea. You barely waste any energy or water, so you're more likely to have a second cup, and then a third, and then a fourth. You're also saving on plastic waste and money. If you buy 50-100 bags for a few francs you're set for several weeks. In contrast with bottled drinks you're shopping at least every six days.

I found that with a larger kettle, when I boiled 800ml of water, and put that hot water into a flask, with tea, the volume was such that it took so long to cool that I didn't drink the tea I prepared. With the new system I do.

    And finally

I made the switch once my new habit was stable, rather than before. Now I use a higher percentage of the water I boil.

  12. I've begun drinking #tea. As in, not #iced tea like an America. I got some masala chai leaves, along with some earl grey. Make them with a #kettle and steeping the leaves. Add #milk and #honey. This shit is pretty good, well done #uk.

  17. Oh. And if you were wondering why the 3D printed part had some colour..

    IT'S A TINY STARSHIP ENTERPRISE!

Printing it I could not but notice the similarity to the #LEGO Enterprise standing in the room... With some (very) quick colouring we now have a very appropriate component hidden in our "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot." machine.

    Engage!

  18. ...and as it's both such a deviation from the rest of the device and an apparently common problem, I wonder if this is planned obsolescence. If not it's a weird choice for a premium device because in this situation most people will find no other option than to discard the device.

Why I think you should not buy a Krups / Tefal appliance.
