  1. RIP Ken Dryden - 6 time Stanley Cup winner, lawyer, author, and Liberal MP. #hockey #KenDryden

  2. “When we eventually write the history of these times, sports will figure as large in the shaping of them as painting did in renaissance Florence. It is our cultural lingua franca. People still read books and go to museums, but not in numbers anywhere close to all those who will sit down on a random Saturday night to watch the Leafs play the Canadiens.”

  3. @WestCoastCliche Ah, the 70s Habs. *That* was a team!
ps. As a fair-weather hockey fan I’m now enjoying the Oilers. But I will miss Dryden in so many other parts of Canadian life.

  4. Saddened to hear of the passing of Ken Dryden this morning.

Ken Dryden sparked a lifelong passion of hockey for me. One small book in my school library just simply titled "Ken Dryden" was all it took. Absolutely one of a kind. I'm sure the internet today will be inundated with images of Ken in his iconic pose leaning on his goal stick. But it's this cover that I associate with him always. RIP Mr. Dryden. #grickledoodle #kendryden #habs #montrealcanadiens #hockey #drawing #illustration #art

  5. Ken Dryden was an awesome — the right word — goaltender for Cornell in the late 1960’s. He won 76 of his 81 varsity starts, including the 1967 NCAA Championship and three consecutive ECAC tournaments.

Opposing team fans watched Dryden with awe and dread. He was an all but indomitable and sportsmanlike opponent who became an iconic Canadian athlete and politician. RIP #kendryden

  6. Hall of Fame goaltender Ken Dryden, a six-time All-Star, six-time Stanley Cup winner and an integral part of the Montreal Canadiens' dynasty of the 1970s, died Friday after a battle with cancer. He was 78. japantimes.co.jp/sports/2025/0 #moresports #kendryden #canada #montreal #montrealcanadiens #obituary

  7. I started watching hockey in the 70s and lived near Montreal at the time of the Canadiens' greatest dynasty, this goalie being one of the biggest reasons for their success. RIP Ken Dryden.

  8. Oof. Sad day for #Habs fans. We lose two of the club’s most legendary goalies in 24 hours. RIP #KenDryden. Truly one of the greats.

Now I need to go read “The Game,” a memoir I’ve been meaning to read since forever.

  9. Aw - hearing that #KenDryden has died.

I generally lost interest in sports teams and watching sports in my early adult years, but as a kid I was a big hockey fan. The Montreal Canadiens were my team, and on that team the goalie Ken Dryden was my favourite player.

He was a smart guy, had a law degree as well as his hockey role, and was a great goalie. That always seemed admirable in a sport that wasn't known for well-rounded people.

He served as an MP for many years later too.
