I don’t get Mastodon users. When tech people say things that are basically accurate, supporters get mad. Island, misfit, and zealotry should all be good things? Being the anti-Facebook (or antitwitter or anti whatever) is necessarily going to mean being weirdos - ie not the same as the other social media.
And even “loser” - if it’s understood to merely mean “less popular” - should be good thing?
Why are Mastodon supporters mad at Gruber?

Reactions to Mastodon For Dummies I've seen range from "I need this!" to "This is the end."
As a recent migrant to Mastodon myself, I have great respect for those who created this space and culture. As Mastodon grows, we need to keep that spirit.
To me, the Fediverse is a revolution, and we need every new recruit! A book won't bring in any new people -- but it can be a necessary orientation (boot camp?) for many people who are Mastodon-curious.

300K more active users vs just a few days ago!
I know that this isn't necessarily good news for everyone who has been here for a long time, but hopefully all of us newcomers can keep the #mastodon vibe.Maybe something like #keepmastodonweird ? (I don't know if that translates outside of the US)
