Eine Oper in Blut. Francis Ford Coppola, zwanzig Jahre nach „Der Pate“ (1972), hat das klassische Monster des Kinohorrors als eine romantische Katastrophe inszeniert. Alles an diesem Film ist viel zu viel: Farbe, Licht, Kostüm, Begehren. Und darin liegt seine Kraft. Statt Horror liefert er barocke Sinnlichkeit und eine Überwältigung durch Stil. Kein Realismus, sondern Kino als zweistündiger Fiebertraum. Ich hab‘ es geliebt. (ZDF, Wh.)
