KDE Plasma 6.7 Beta is now available!

The beta version of KDE Plasma v6.7 is now available for developers and curious users to try out. This allows users to get an early look at the upcoming version of KDE Plasma, which brings new features and improvements to existing features.

The official announcement states that the beta version of KDE Plasma 6.7 includes two new modules:

• plasma-bigscreen
• union

This version of KDE Plasma uses the new styling engine that is currently under development, Union. This year’s update for Union states that the default input format has been changed from SVG to CSS stylesheets, considering that creating and editing styles were easier with SVG in the first glance until complexities appeared.

This is a promising change that will be integrated with the final release of KDE Plasma 6.7 to ensure that the design of UI elements, such as buttons, combo boxes, and checkboxes, look cleaner and more consistent than before. In this beta version of KDE Plasma, the Union styling is in technical preview.

Alongside the Union theming style is the Plasma Bigscreen, which is made by KDE, and is an open-source TV interface for Linux. This launcher provides you with a TV-friendly interface, which allows you to use it comfortably on your television. It also supports multiple input methods, such as your keyboard and mouse, your TV controller, and your phone.

Not only that, but Plasma Bigscreen allows you to customize it to make your TV truly yours. You’ll be able to customize your system and install your favorite applications in your heart’s content.

Harmaa sydän -ongelma (ratkaistu jo aiemmin)

Pari kuukautta ihmettelin miksi tykkäämäni Mastodon postauksen sydän on aina harmaa, paitsi silloin kun refreshaan sivun.

Ärsytti nyt tämä pikkuvika niin paljon, että oli pakko selvittää mikä homma. Vaikeinta oli lähteä etsimään oikeasta paikasta juurisyytä. Ensin epäilin, että @rolle n BirdUI:ssa on joku CSS-ongelma. Rolle sanoi ettei pitäisi olla mitään ongelmaa. Mun sydänongelma (ei sentään oma elin :blob_sweat: ) koski nimenomaan CachyOSia, muilla käyttöjärjestelmissä näkyy oikein selaimesta riippumatta.

Nyt vasta hoksasin tarkistaa KDE Plasman asetukset tarkemmin ja sieltä löytyikin syypää.

Ulkoasut ja Teemat > Animoinnit > Animoinnin nopeus 'välitön'. Välitön tila laukaisi tämän ongelman. Säädin animoinnin nyt hitaammaksi ja heti ratkesi ongelma. 'Välitön' aiheutti sydämen animoinnin poistamisen, kun se on aktiivisena klikattuna Mastodonissa. Kyseisen asetuksen lisäinfossa mainitaan, että ongelma saattaa koskea nimenomaan GTK sovelluksia ja animointi ei toimi niissä oikein tässä tilassa.

heute für meinen Vater ein Acer Aspire 1 mit einem LinuxMint installiert.

Ich habe ihm KDE Plasma installiert. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass die Angebotenen Meta Pakete von KDE nicht gut zusammengestellt sind.

Sogar bei kde-full - fehlte so einiges, dass man nachinstallieren musste.

Pues así quedaría el escritorio y Firefox. He puesto el panel a la izquierda y el panel de pestañas minimizado a la derecha para que así haya más espacio central. Abajo a la izquierda está la bandeja del sistema con el reloj, un panel que se oculta automáticamente cuando una ventana lo cubre. Las notificaciones también aparecen ahí, que para mí es el "lugar natural" donde buscarlas. A priori me parece una configuración óptima.

KDE Plasma 6.6 introduces the ability to extract text from screenshots taken using Spectacle, KDE's default screenshot-taking tool, similar to Snipping Tool in Windows.

In some Linux distributions with KDE as the default desktop, Spectacle sometimes doesn't show the "Extract text" button that enables this. Descriptions on how to fix the issue in OpenSUSE, NixOS and Arch are easily discoverable on the Web, but for Devuan (and presumably Debian) fixes are much harder to find.

I'm running Devuan "freia" (based on Debian testing). In a terminal, run:

sudo apt install tesseract-ocr tesseract-libs

Type y when prompted to install all dependencies and restart Spectacle if it's already running. Voilà. For me this worked; your mileage may vary.
