  1. Healing the ground we broke

By Celia Llopis-Jepsen, David Condos, Mackenzie Martin
    Published July 1, 2024

"After Europeans colonized America, their descendants plowed their way across the continent, seeking prosperity through farming. But breaking up the soil – that had built up over many thousands of years – made it wash away. So some farmers are retiring their tilling equipment. Amble through #Kansas prairies and cornfields as we learn how treasuring the ground beneath our feet can lead to farms that better withstand #ClimateChange, use less #fertilizer and suck carbon out of the atmosphere."

  6. Between land and water: Tribal relocation and resistance

    By Celia Llopis-Jepsen
    Published April 6, 2026

"#ClimateChange is altering the land, and #Indigenous communities are on the frontline. This episode takes you to #Alaska, where rapid permafrost thaw is threatening the Native village of #Nunapitchuk. Then, we head to #Louisiana, where the #PointeAuChien Indian Tribe is losing its land to rising #SeaLevels. These tribes are forced to make a difficult decision between staying and adapting or leaving their ancestral homes. (This episode comes to us from the environmental podcast #SeaChange.)"

  11. Less lawn, more #wildlife! Here’s how to ditch turf for #NativePlants

    By Celia Llopis-Jepsen
    Published May 6, 2025

"So you’ve been thinking about getting rid of your lawn, or at least having less. You’ll attract birds and bees and you won’t have to mow as much. Nice! But where to start? Master gardener Paula Diaz gives us the scoop on how to kill grass, where to look for the right native plant species to replace it, and how to start laying out your flower beds. Come learn from someone who’s been winning over her neighbors to give native plants a shot."

  12. #Kansas Town Uses #LicensePlateReaders to Go After Man Who Wrote Op-Ed

Police in #Lenexa , Kansas used automated license plate reader ( #ALPR ) technology to pursue a man who wrote a critical op-ed about the police department, according to reporting by Kansas public radio station #KCUR. This is a rare public example of exactly the kind of #abuse that we’ve long warned against when it comes to mass-surveillance systems like #licenseplate readers.

    "talk to your local booksellers!"

    Will do!

Hopefully we will be able to get you here:

Rainy Day Books is Kansas City's oldest Independent #Bookstore in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Since 1975, Rainy Day Books has been more than just a bookstore. They are a catalyst for positive change in our community.

And while you are in #KC, hopefully you can appear on our #NPR affiliate: #KCUR.

  14. How about some good news? KCUR, #KC's NPR affiliate held an emergency funding drive following the slimy Republicans axing money that was approved bipartisanly just a few months ago.

The drive seems to have been a success.

Wouldn't it be great if #PublicMedia turned out stronger after this trial? I'll tell ya what, as a recurrent donor to various public media entities, I have a vested interest in them all. Seems I'm in good company.

  16. I’ll be looking to #PubicMedia for my election updates tonight. Hope you folks will consider the same. Where you put your eyeballs matters.

Nothing flashy, just the facts. And with local context. For us in the bistate #KC area, that’s #KCUR and #KansasCityPBS (formerly #KCPT)

  17. So they got back to me and sent the registration information.

First off, it’s weird because rather than focus #NPRplus on their app, they bypass it and have you use your podcast player of choice. That’s fine, but weird that they wouldn’t want to use their own app.

ALSO, I wonder what’s stopping me from sharing the ad free podcast link? 🤔 #NPRone #KCUR #KC #npr

  18. Pretty disappointed in #NPRone, and the forced ads lately. Apparently #NPRplus will let you skip the BS, but it’s only available on a per-station basis.

I reached out to my #KCUR membership coordinator to see if/when we’ll get it and they offered to let me test it when it starts in a month or so. That’s pretty cool. 😎 #KC #npr

  19. Yeah, our local NPR affiliiate, #KCUR doing the right thing. I was a guest on one of their shows back in January. Let's hope they set up shop on the Fediverse. #KansasCity #KCMO
