The Kaypro II, a beloved 1980s computer, was famously used by Arthur C. Clarke to write "2010." It featured a Zilog Z80 processor and 64KB of RAM. Though marketed as portable, its 13 kg weight made it more suitable for desktops. Popular in the U.S., it ran on CP/M and was known for its sturdy design and large display. 💻✨

Okay crowd.

What on earth is this machine?

It's not a KayPro 1/2/4, Northstar, TRS-80, Compaq, Osbourne, or Zenith.

Twin 5.25" full-height drives mounted either size of a small CRT. Almost portable form factor but not actually portable.

Some kind of forgotten S-100 clone from the early 80s? Closest seems to be an "Kaycomp II" prototype but still not 100%.

The image on the CRT is superimposed, almost certainly monochrome.

Enfin un ordinateur de musculation.
Le #Kaypro 10, créé par Andy Kay,l' inventeur du voltmètre numérique. En 1982, cette superbe glacière tout en alu de 12 Kg embarquait un bon gros skeudur de 10 Mo sous CP/M. Il était garni de super softs, fournis avec la machine : #dBase, #Wordstar, la suite Perfect.
Du fun pur, mais portable.

The first computer I’ve ever used, sometime in 1986. The Kaypro 2x 64k Z80 CP/M “luggable” has been in our family for over 35 years and it still works! Even for 1985 it was a simple computer with almost no graphics capability, but it came with a lot of software: WordStar, Supercalc and DBase and several BASIC variants. And also a few ASCII games like Ladder, a Donkey Kong clone and CatChum, the CP/M version of PacMan! #retrocomputing #vintage #vintagecomputer #kaypro #8bit #cpm
