I've just finished reading Beauty and Sadness by Yasunari Kawabata. It ended quite abruptly!
It's the third novel of his that I've read - I'm always struck by the beauty of his paragraphs of cinematic description that interspers the narrative, they do add a sense of seeing the whole thing for me.

Anyhow, hoping today inaugurates a back-to-regular-reading day. Just before break, I had bought a big stack of recent books, esp. #history monographs, that barely got touched before the semester kicked off. Some great #fiction waiting in the wings, including #SamanthaHarvey's *Orbital*!
(I did start *Snow Country* by #KawabataYasunari around the start of the year but it is *clearly* not where my brain is at, as I made it halfway, stalled, and may very well DNF it. I've read one or two things from him before and remember enjoying them, so this is likely a time-and-place thing on my part, not a critique of the book.)

BEAUTIFUL JAPAN ❤️
That photo reminds me of Yasunari's Kawabata's book "Snow Country".
I think I should read it again.

After watching "The Dancing Girl of Izu", based on the book from the maestro Yasunari Kawabata, I want to read his novel now. For sure the book will be greater than the movie!

My translation of Dazai's infamous letter to Kawabata Yasunari, where he threatends to stab him, is now available on the (new!) Yobanashi Café website:

Done reading "The Cat who Saved the Books" from Sosuke Natsukawa and loved a lot.
Now is the time to start with one Japanese Classics: "Snow Country" (in Spanish) from Yasunari Kawabata, published in 1948. On the way!

Still in my journey to the #JapaneseLiterature and this time with a #KawabataYasunari's short story: "One Arm". What could I say? Enjoyed such mix of fantasy and realism with disturbing feelings. I loved it. #川端康成 #かたうで #Japanesebooks #Japan #BooksWorthReading #Readers
