In 2008, #intel laced all their CPUs going forward with a #spychip (aka #IME). In 2013, #AMD did the same by injecting a #PSP.
What’s your advice? We see general advice like:
“When you buy a device or an operating system, keep it up-to-date with software updates.”
Readers take this same advice about software & transpose it to h/w. Obviously that’s a disaster.
The informed public knows there are dodgy anti-consumer spychips. What we don’t know is *which ones*. There is no concrete info on whether AMD Kaveri chips have a PSP, only conflicting guesswork.
The #EFF should setup a lab, like they did w/the #yellowtrackerdots, & test which #Kaveri chips have a spychip and which do not.
Please relay this msg to EFF decision makers. Not only will it promote #security and transparency, but it will also reduce #ewaste as consumers rightfully gain respect for old hardware. #retrocomputing
