Katsuhiro Otomo
est un artiste mangaka japonais.
Né à Miyagi, une préfecture rurale du Japon, Katsuhiro Otomo déménage à Tokyo dans le but de devenir dessinateur en 1973, après la fin de ses études. Sa première œuvre marquante est l'adaptation de la nouvelle Un coup de Pistolet, Pouchkine, traduite par Prosper Mérimée en une bande dessinée pour le magazine Action où il dessine des histoires courtes.En 1979, "Fireball" est son premier manga d'envergure, l'année suivante, il écrit "Domu" dont l'écriture se poursuit jusqu'en 1982 et qui connait un immense succès. La bande dessinée remporte même le grand prix de Science Fiction, jusqu'alors réservé à des romans. En 1982, il commence à publier l’œuvre qui le fera découvrir au monde entier, "Akira". Histoire fleuve de science fiction dans une ville de Tokyo apocalyptique, le manga "Akira" occupe son auteur pendant une décennie.
Devenu un célèbre mangaka, Otomo a d'autres talents et s'essaye à la réalisation d'anime. En 1987, il signe l'un des trois sketches de "Manie Manie", ainsi que le début et la fin de "Robot Carnival". Avec la même équipe, il se lance dans l'adaptation d'"Akira" en long métrage, en 1988. Le manga rencontre un énorme succès dans le monde et devient culte pour nombre de fans. Il permet également de faire connaître ce style alors méconnu. Passionné de cinéma, il avait réalisé son premier film live en 1982.
En 1991, il collabore au long métrage "Roujin Z", il sera l'auteur, le meca et chara-designer du film. Il poursuit sur sa lancée en 1995, avec le film "Memories", où il se charge notamment du sketch "Cannon fodder" et supervise l'ensemble de l'oeuvre. Il aidera par la suite son ami Satoshi Kon pour qu'il puisse réaliser son premier film "Perfect Blue" sorti en février 1998. Par la suite, il participe au film "Spriggan" sorti en 1998. Il scénarise le l'adaptation du manga de Osamu Tezuka "Metropolis" réalisé par Rintaro.
Parallèlement à ses participations à divers projets, il travaille plus de 8 ans sur le long métrage d'animation "Steamboy".
Au cours de sa carrière, il obtient le Grand Prix du Festival d'Angoulême 2015 mais aussi le prix Eisner (1192, 2002); le prix Seiun 1982, 1984; le grand prix Nihon SF; le prix du manga Kodansha 1984; le prix Harvey 1993; le Annie Awards 2014 et des nominations à des grands prix de cinéma tel que le Lion d'Or.

Ho visto che rifanno #Akira al #cinema in #4K e #restaurato. Io lo guardai decine di anni fa al #fantastival (e poi tante altre volte a casa in DVD, BluRay, etc etc).
Film fondamentale, definitivo, e direi quasi inutile tesserne le lodi: sarebbe sempre troppo poco.
Potrebbe avere senso andare a rivederlo.

A very similar looking version of Kaneda's bike from the classic 1988 anime Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo makes an appearance in CyberPunk 2077. However, it's called the Yaiba Kusanagi CT-3X.
Yaiba means blade or edge, and the name "Kusanagi" is also a clear reference to Ghost in the Shell, Major Motoko Kusanagi!
