Ooh. There’s an interesting pull request for the #OpenStreetMap iD editor to allow viewing some #WikimediaCommons photos within the editor in a similar manner to street-level photos from #Mapillary, #KartaView, and @panoramax.

A review of #Panoramax I have to first say that I support the effort of its contribution of #osm but this review is what I experienced after just try #Mapillary and #KartaView
1. Starting right on the capturing, my phone brightness was dim before I recorded any thing and I had to stop that dimming setting.
2. Despite no map view and very minimal, it takes long times to get GPS than the other 2
3. After each ride, my phone is completely bombed by the photos in Gallery4. (More 👇)@panoramax

I tried contributing to #KartaView for the first time on my ebike - it's like the Google Street View but anyone can contribute kinda like #Mapillary amd the account is same as your account in #osm

When editing crowdsourced #OpenStreetMap #OSM map, editor can enable KartaView (as well as similar Mapilio, Mapillary, Panoramax) layer to see user-submitted image sequences, use to add map objects, detail.

Can't compete for #KartaView dashcam when you can't upload images!

@ShutterbugDoug I do remember deleting images using #KartaView but I think you can only do it from the website after you've uploaded them

So frustrating - frankly stupid! - that #kartaview doesn't let you delete junk images (stupid windshield suction cup fell). Delete entire sequence or show images of car interior and my lap? ☹️😡👎 Mapillary sucks in umpteen ways but allows image deletion. oh, the life of an #OpenStreetMap contributor 😉☹️

Idea: high-priority processing for low-volume individual user contributions, low-priority batch mode processing for resource-intensive high-volume contributions.
If Mapillary is going to (continue to) be an OSM contributor productivity obstacle - wasted time, energy, bad PR - OSM should give #KartaView, #Mapilio images equal weight, e.g. add images fields in OSM database.

Hey, #OpenStreetMap people, does anyone know why, in iD editor image preview, #Mapillary now shows useless generic website URL instead of image-specific URL - with necessary Mapillary image ID for OSM objects? Very, VERY screwed-up! 😡 Can't easily submit image ID for objects!😡 I think it's now been months, if not seasons.😡
If Meta being jerks, can we add #KartaView, #Mapilio image ID fields?

Is your source code available and if not, are there plans to open source it? I would like to street-level images because they are invaluable for #OpenStreetMap mapping, however I cannot trust closed-source, #proprietary software with photo and GPS data of my location at all times when travelling.

That reminds of somebody's script to copy their #Mapillary contributions to #KartaView.

That's been quite a while, when Meta bought Mapillary.

Have you heard of #Panoramax? They bill themselves as the **free** "street view"

It's a test instance of #GeoVisio run by IGN with the French #OpenStreetMap community where you can share your street-level imagery collection.

They're conceptually in the same space as #Mapillary, #KartaView , or #GoogleStreetView.

Images taken outside of France are welcome, although the low-level zoom maps aren't available just yet.

@tugba it would be nice if #KartaView, #Mapillary, and #Mapilio @mapilio could work on interoperability of uploaded images or at least make a tool so that it's easier to contribute the same photos to all services.

Has anyone built (or considered building) a local-first, federated alternative to Mapillary / KartaView (or Google Street View)?

It would be interesting to be able to capture GBs/TBs of street level
images/LiDAR data and be able to view/edit in iD locally - and allow others to access (perhaps via a torrent) after publishing a metadata file somewhere with moderation (fediverse?)

iD editor’s ‘show local jpegs on map’ has got me thinking.

IIRC I tried and then deleted #Mapilio app because it required full-time cellular data for real-time upload.☹️😡👎
Issues: a) I don't have unlimited data, b) obviously, cellular isn't available everywhere, e.g. in canyons c) I want to browse, preview images and delete junk

- does it just create an overlay on existing OSM data or is it either directly integrated into the data set or come with the option to export the data ?
- how does it deal with conflicting OSM data ?
- are there options to connect to existing image sharing sites like #mapillary or #KartaView ?
- under what license do my uploaded photos fall ?

Le but de ces projets est d'avoir un StreetView coopératif basé sur les données OSM. Il ne s'agit pas de modifier les données OSM elles mêmes, mais plutôt d'enrichir les données autour.
