  1. #Kamala counted on #Poles and #Ukrainians in #Pennsylvania. #JakeSullivan is by far the biggest reason they didn't turn out for #Democrats this year. Sullivan is why Ukraine, the nation that has the least reasons to like #Putin's lapdog, has higher approval of #Trump than any nation in #Europe. Sullivan is why Ukraine didn't get Patriots and F-16s and ATACMS until it was too late to make a difference.

And don't even get me started on the things #Biden admin failed to do to support #Belarusians.

  2. Know this number:

  3. “In #Kamala #Harris we have a chance to elect a president who is for the middle class because she is from the middle class,” progressive Rep #Ocasio-#Cortez said in her speech on Monday.

“She understands the urgency of rent checks and groceries and prescriptions. She is as committed to our reproductive and civil rights as she is to taking on corporate greed.”

Ocasio-Cortez issued a wholehearted endorsement of the new nominee, and she promised that, if elected, Harris would serve as a champion of the middle class.

In his own convention speech, Senator #Bernie #Sanders pledged that Democrats would use their governing power to “tax the rich”, “take on price gouging” and “expand Medicare”.

The possibility of that change has animated progressives.
“The energy is electrifying and it’s a lot of young folks,” the congresswoman #Pramila #Jayapal, chair of the Congressional #Progressive #caucus, told the Guardian.
“If you have young people, if you have progressives, Black, brown, Indigenous folks, working-class folks, that is actually the base that helps us to win because they are the ones that go door to door. They’re the ones that mobilize voters.”

To deliver on the promises that progressives are seeking, Harris may have to distance herself from Biden in certain areas, especially climate and the war on Gaza.
During his 2020 campaign, Biden embraced a sweeping climate agenda as he looked to reassure the millions of progressive voters who had not backed him in the primary.
While Biden signed the most significant federal climate bill in history, the Inflation Reduction Act, however, failed to follow through on his campaign pledge of “no more drilling on federal lands”.

Progressives hope Harris will stick to some of the promises that Biden made as a candidate but then walked back.

“We cannot have that happen again,” #Jeff #Merkley, a senator, told the Guardian.
“We, as climate truth-tellers, have to be very present, very loud, very determined to say,❇️ ‘We will back you 1,000%, but you can’t keep expanding the fossil infrastructure.’”❇️

  4. Donald Trump, twice impeached, 4 times indicted disgraced ex-president and a convicted felon is now telling people at his rally in Pennsylvania he is better looking than Kamala Harris ... 😂 Seriously ... not making this up ... Just as always, when you think this psycho can't surprise you with his pathetic narcissistic pettiness any more, he always manages to do just that ...

  5. US citizens and concerned others should pay attention to this segment from the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC:

    msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/

The story tries to make sense of the fact that Trump has repeatedly remarked in an ominous way that he's not too concerned about whether people vote, as if the plan is to win the election not on votes but court challenges.

She's drawing on this excellent reporting from Rolling Stone:

    rollingstone.com/politics/poli

    From that article:

«“I think we are going to see mass refusals to certify the election” in November, says Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias. “Everything we are seeing about this election is that the other side is more organized, more ruthless, and more prepared.”»

I don't even know why anyone at MSNBC is surprised. I've been worried for now a couple of years that this was going to happen and it was because of reporting MSNBC and others did even back then, saying that the groundwork for this was being laid. That we have taken this long to recognize the threat is distressing.

If Biden does not have a task force in place to counter this threat, he needs to make one.

As I noted in my July 5 blog post Supreme Challenge (netsettlement.blogspot.com/202), before Biden passed the baton to Harris, Biden now has considerable power he's opting not to use but must reconsider using to assure fair elections.

He could, for example, order DOJ to charge every one of these people who are conspiring in advance and without foundation to challenge an election with seditious conspiracy. Such powers, SCOTUS tells us, are absolute and not subject to legal review. Probably there are other actions he could take, too.

My more general point is that we don't have to sit idle and watch misdeeds play out as if there is nothing to be done. Certainly if Trump is elected, HE will use those same powers in exactly the same way but without foundation, hesitation, or remorse, and without the health of our democracy as his goal.

As noted by Marc Elias in the quote above, these guys are not kidding around, they are playing for keeps. The Dems better treat this as the serious threat it is. I'd say the GOP should likewise care, but they're in a hypnotic trance, operating in mindless lockstep, so it's up to those not under the spell to act.

Maybe, too, Kamala can see what Joe might not and use her newfound clout to get him to take the gloves off.

  7. 🇺🇸🗽A couple of comments on White Women for Kamala Zoom. First they payed Homage to our Black sisters & gave them credit for helping to show us the way.

They talked about white priviledge & how white woman make up 41% of the Electorate but every election vote majority for Republicans. WTF! How black woman carry us. And how we need to join together to carry this for #Kamala

Folks this isn't about a woman. This is about a #movement it started long ago with songs like #IamWomanHearMeRoar & books like #OurBodiesOurselves I think of my grandmothers #suffragates. My grandmother writing in her diary about casting her first #vote. This has been a long time coming. The energy has been building for centuries. #watchout

They talked about how hard and nasty this will be. How it will be tough. The organizers & speakers were all young woman. #AnswerTheCall
