My #SundaySong is going up on Saturday this week for reasons. This is a stripped down version of a Kurt Weill/Ogden Nash song told from the point of view of a statue of Venus that has come to life in the modern era. From the #musical "One Touch of Venus," this is "I'm A Stranger Here Myself."

New #uke, who dis? Plays and sounds very different from my others, and I am not yet used to it, but I had a new way of doing Michael Nesmith's "Nine Times Blue" that I was determined to squeak out on this beautiful archtop, so here it is, warts and all. Also laid in some #kalaubass if you listen closely enough.

When I performed #Cracker's "Been Around The World" at #openmic this week I started it in a voice and tempo I'd never even thought of before, and found myself locked in and liking it. I can't quite capture the energy I felt with that sound booming out into the room, but this isn't a bad approximation either. Added some #KalaUBass and guess what? One take on that. Having a good week with this song!

Hadn't thought of this song in years and then I suddenly heard it played in three different places, which is SO weird. The version I knew was by John Martyn, on one of those great KCRW samplers, Morning Becomes Eclectic. But it turns out his version was a cover of a song by #portishead. He changed it, I changed it, here it is, just me and a somewhat fuzzed-out U-Bass: "Glory Box."

This week's #SundaySong is one you'll probably recognize, eventually. It's from the demo version of one of the most famous songs of the rock era; the verses are completely different, and then that old familiar chorus kicks in. I went to the effort to add #KalaUBass to the mix, but you'll only hear it with headphones or good speakers.
I had a real *moment* singing this at #OpenMicNight this week. Never was more surprised.

This week's #SundaySong is an old Soft Cell lament, "Say Hello Wave Goodbye." Have always loved this song, could never imagine I'd have the ability to perform it.
