  1. While I was learning the ins and outs of my new sewing machine, my big quilt project was waiting patiently for me.

I have read up on the Trip Around The World pattern, and I noticed my design was missing out on the middle cross section which helps make a more pleasant geometric form (imo).

So ... I will check out my KF Collective/Free Spirit fabric stash to see if I can find one fabric that I can use in my 16 squares; the plain colors will not change.

Back to the drawing/design board, and I need to prepare myself for some serious unpicking of seams!

  2. I'm working on my next quilt project: let's go on a trip around the world!

Slightly more muted colors than my previous big quilt, but the main row will still be Free Spirit/Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I think I have decided which configuration I will choose, but I have not yet decided on a size.

    3 by 5 (each 4x4 blocks) or 4 by 4 (each 4x4 blocks).

Any quilters who have experience with this quilt block?

  3. Another Kaffe Fassett Collective/Free Spirit project, this time purchased from The Last Homely House (warning to my future self: more expensive, because it's not shipped DDP).

Yellow/orange-ish 1 inch hexagons, basting was quite easy and fun, and now I just want to see if this is the configuration I want. I like there is some symmetry, but nothing too obvious (I hope). :crossstitch_by:

  4. My Sudoku Quilt is ready! :crossstitch_by: :neocat_lol:

The warm weather spell (it's been raining the past week), a quick wool washing machine program, and a gentle breeze made the scary washing process fairly easy. The stitches held up, but I might just give it one last iron before I use it on my bed more permanently.

The Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics still amaze me, and I've found that I have a new favorite each time I look at the quilt :neocat_heart:

  9. I finished the quilting stitches, attached the binding on one side, and now it's time to complete this part with tiny binding stitches.

Next I will need to add its name and details, and then follows the most scary part: the washing machine! 🫣 :crossstitch_by:

  14. Managed to extend the backing, repinned everything and when the courier brought my blended threads, I could not stop myself from starting the first rows of quilt stitches.

Only about 35 more meters to go, if I decide to run my thread every 2 squares/20 centimeters. I choose to stitch in the ditch, because I do not want to run through the middle of the squares, I might decide to run a thread every square, because the batting has a 10-20 cm quilt spacing advice.

For now, I'll continue my vertical and horizontal sewing, and I can determine later on if I want to decrease the spacing.

  19. Getting ready to pin this quilt.

The width of the borders is not yet fixed, because I had to Frankenstein the backing, so I won't have much or any leeway for the side borders.

So for now, after I've pinned it, I'll leave this quilt and think about the border and how I'm going to quilt it.

  24. The joy in spending my last days of vacation covered in loose threads and fabric pieces :crossstitch_by:

Playing around, some last minute changes/swaps of a few pieces of fabric, but I think I have finished the top of this quilt :lego_openhappysquint:

I am undecided if I want a border, and if I do, will I have enough of the light blue solid fabric which I'm also using for the backing?

If I do/don't add a border, which fabric will I use for the binding: if solid blue border, use all patterned leftovers for binding; if no border, go patterned or solid for the binding?

And the quilting pattern, what do I do? My sewing machine cannot handle a machine stitch, I do not want to farm this quilt out to a longarm-machine shop, but I am not looking forward to hand-stitching ... I might check in on the sewing course work space, to see if their big machines (with integrated tables) might be a solution.

Do I stitch in the ditch, or go wild? And which color/weight of thread? :lego_opencrossed:

More questions, no answers just now.

  34. This quilt feels like a sudoku without rhyme or reason :lego_opencrossed:

I have 13 different Kaffe Fassett Collective fabrics, not all the same amount, and the end goal is a quilt of 160x200 cm (approx).

It's a good thing I cannot start immediately, I need to source a solid color for about 80 squares and the binding, because it will be good for me to get some distance and to mull about my pattern placements more.
