disappointed in the new Trope Trainer that it doesn't seem to suuport #Ashkenazi pronunciations at all. even though I have set it as my preference it always defaults to modern mainstream pronunciation which is basically #Sephardi.
#Jwitter #Mazeldon possible rant incoming lol. and like, I vividly remember when my #HebrewSchool switched what pronunciation they were teaching us, when I started to get told I was wrong and made fun of for having tof/sof as a distinction, and so many other little intricacies of pronunciation that just get flattened in modern Hebrew. and I think I was about nine years old, but I swore then and there that I was going to continue to daven the way my zayde did and pronounce things the way my zayde did and nobody could make me change it.
and that's how I've done things the last twenty-four years, so I'm not going to start collapsing my distinctions between consonants and vowels just because that's what is taught now and that's what the software now says.
it's a sort of assimilation that gets shoved on us because it fits better with the desires of the modern political state, as well, and the ever further right party lines. those lines don't have room to preserve and promote the huge variety of #Judaisms and customs other than the mainstream
if it doesn't give the rest of them as options, it no longer works towards the preservation aspect that was integral to the original Trope Trainer. and that's all of our loss.

I broke my no contact rule with my grandparents to go pick up a copy of the ancient Trope Trainer software originally purchased for my b'nei mitzvah, twenty-one years ago. it's originally Windows XP software and I'm not particularly techie as for getting it to run on my Windows 10 laptop. but I do have a copy of it, and if I can make it work that'll be a miracle from Hashem.
I'll expand this into a live toot thread when I do.

so I called her out further. I didn't actually tag her, I'm leaving it up to her if she wants to come forward. I suspect she won't be doing that.
I hope she sleeps well at night knowing the harm that was done by her stupid fucking self-help book and I hope Hashem opens up the earth and swallow her into Sheol for the avodah zarah of worshipping at the altar of capitalism and work.
I hope she chokes on that book every day for the rest of her life.

While the tone of interactions on Mastodon have been polite, it's exhausting and somewhat dead. Every interaction has to be explicitly hunted down.
I miss passively jumping on a social and have exchanges served up, with an option to interact.
Here 90% of what I see is a series of exchanges about 10 comments down with no context.
I have a horrible feeling that #jwitter is going to die and take the last of my Jewish community from me because #mazeldon doesn't seem to be working for my account.
