Rally for #RentControl outside Oakland City Hall today!
Justice for Renters is a California Proposition we'll vote on in 2024. It would give cities & counties more options for protecting more tenants from unreasonable rent increases or evictions.
Some things cities could address if Justice for Renters passes:
Shady landlords doing "renovictions" to kick out everyone to do minor upgrades, after which rent can go up thousands of dollars. California's housing crisis requires investment in building new homes - not flipping existing ones.
Wall Street buying up houses and using them as rentals, making it hard for young families to buy a home - because a corporate landlord owning 100 houses is much less regulated than one owning 100 apartments.
In many cities with rent control, tenants in buildings from the 1980s and 1990s have fewer protections than those in older ones, as existing state law bans cities from regulating them.
Updating state laws helps solve these problems. Vote yes on #JusticeForRenters!
