To says it's a touchy subject in China is an understatement.

Inside of China, many people don't know about it. Mentions are met with ignorance by educational design, or denial as government policy, or aggression as policing.

Outside of China, we should remember it as a warning, but also be inspired by the optimism and strength of the protesters.

Tank Man is such a strong symbol of civilian protest against an unjust government and its military-industrial complex.
A handful of photos exist of Tank Man famously halting a column of tanks, each taken at almost the same moment and from similar angles. These phots are by AP photographer Jeff Widener, Newsweek photographer Charlie Cole, Magnum photographer Stuart Franklin, and Reuters photographer Arthur Tsang.

  3. Today's a good day to remember the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre of 4 June 1989.

These photos serve as a reminder that sometimes you need to be fed-up with your government, and brave like Tank Man, also known as the Unknown Protester or Unknown Rebel. This unidentified Chinese man stood in front of a column of Type 59 tanks leaving Tiananmen Square in Beijing on June 5, 1989.
