  14. One thing I like about photographing fireworks is that they are so outside normal sensory experience and have so much range in brightness that you can get interesting photos with different exposures and even when the autofocus "fails" you can get a pretty image

  18. A little struggle is good… Weekly Recap 7/6/2026

I once heard someone say: “A little struggle is good.” When you work for something, you value it more. You learn. You become better.

    Easy come, easy go, right?

By that same token, a little chaos is a positive thing. Perfectly ordered systems tend to get boring.

Of course… chaos could actually just be order that is not yet understood. Who am I to judge?

Daily writing prompt Is a little chaos actually good for us? View all responses

Good morning and happy Monday, friends. Happy start to July! And if you chose to celebrate it, I hope you had a pleasant July 4th weekend.

The latest episode of M3 has been released for your viewing pleasure, featuring a return appearance by Kamden Cornell, as well as a lengthy conversation about On Pins and Needles, which contains everything you ever wanted to know about poppet magick. Go watch it on YouTube!

Earlier in the week, I fixed the AC in our car. Yay for me! Driving around in Florida during the summer without proper cooling is definitely an unpleasant experience. Aside from that, most of the week was filled with other mundanities like homework and housework. Still, it has taken quite a few days to recover from the double initiation—which seems like forever ago at this point, but was just the prior week—so my energy levels were still pretty sunk, but I think they’re starting to build back up now.

On Friday, Selene and I went on a grocery store scavenger hunt. She had a project for her Environmental Science class that required locating specific types of items in a supermarket (e.g., “something that is likely bioengineered, but not labeled as such”) and then taking a picture of it. But to prove they were her photos and not just random ones off the interwebs, she had to be in them. I took about a dozen pictures of her posed with random produce, meats, milk, and other goods. She told me I was allowed to use exactly one of them for my weekly update.

    So without further ado…

After that, she tricked me into watching sports. Argentina played against—well, does it actually matter? The point is… Argentina was playing and this is something she feels strongly about.

On the plus side, there was some really amazing food. We went to Alacruz Grill, an Argentine restaurant in Wellington. I know I don’t always make specific mention of names when I talk about food here, but… yes, it was that good. You should go there.

I had a pesto gnocchi dish. And for dessert?

We went with the server’s recommendation—some sort of dolce de leche cupcake thing. I now trust him implicitly.

We stayed at the restaurant until sometime in the middle of the second half, then retreated to a nearby sports bar for a change of atmosphere—you know, somewhere that people are loudly reacting to the movement of a ball and such.

So there we were. And yes, the people here, who had clad themselves in team jerseys, possessed very strong and audible opinions.

I’ve never really understood people’s passion for sports. In fact, I can’t think of a single time that I’ve felt any sort of emotion during any type of sporting event. With that said, I’m considering giving it a test run and rooting for the U.S.A. in the World Cup. Maybe I’ll find out what all the fuss is about.

On Saturday we decided to not really do much of anything. There were plenty of fireworks outside, which we did not watch. We had fireworks of our own (you know, the ones that aren’t really fireworks), but they remained untouched. I guess we weren’t really feeling it.

It is our July 4th tradition to make the most patriotic meal possible, so we had a Mexican rice bowl. I was hungry, so I ate it before taking a picture. If you’re stuck here, just visualize a Mexican rice bowl.

We saved the burgers and hotdogs for the next day.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I have—without fear of hyperbole—the greatest cheeseburger recipe known to humankind. Perhaps one day I will share it.

Finally, here is a picture of Loki being Loki.

That’s all for today, my friends. Stay tuned for more soon!

  19. 👀

"Hundreds of people affiliated with the #whitesupremacist group #PatriotFront marched in #WashingtonDC, on Saturday, in a #July4 show of force by the group founded by a veteran of a landmark 2017 far-right rally that featured an #antisemitic chant.

The marchers in #Washington wore masks and some carried #Confederate flags, according to reports and video from the scene. At times, they chanted “Reclaim #America!” — a rallying cry channeling the group’s nativist agenda.

While Patriot Front’s public activities mostly center on its anti-#immigrant and anti-#LGBTQ agenda, the #AntiDefamationLeague has repeatedly cited the group, founded in 2017, as the largest purveyor of antisemitic materials in the #UnitedStates.

One of the group’s signature slogans, which members displayed on a banner in Washington in 2023, is “No #Zionists in Government.”
