  1. When I was in university I loved The Juliana Hatfield Three. Then a few years ago, I stumbled across her outstanding 2018 album of Olivia Newton John covers - her version of Totally Hot is a Total Knock Out (seriously!).

Hatfield's been making music through all the intervening years. I'm looking forward to listening to her latest album: Lightning Might Strike, released in December.

  2. Juliana Hatfield released her 21st solo album last month. I didn't realize she was so prolific.... This song, "Popsicle" continues her same 90s vibe of catchy guitar rock. "Popsicle" would be great on a playlist with Sheryl Crow and Last Dinner Party. The whole album can be streamed or purchased on Bandcamp.

  3. Juliana Hatfield - Lightning Might Strike

Juliana has always balanced downbeat lyrics with upbeat music, and this past year or so has given her plenty of that kind of material.

She's moved out to western mass, lost her dog, a friend, her mom got cancer...it's been a lot.

Music is her calling, her therapy, and she's made some lovely lemonade here.

  4. Great chill, rainy-day Tuesday: play #nomanssky and listen to #JoanShelley 's amazing new "Real Warmth"
    - along with some #NickDrake , #sufjanstevens "Carrie & Lowell", and so I just don't off myself, a little #JulianaHatfield ("How To Walk Away".)

  5. Juliana Hatfield - Made in China

Nice to supplement my original Pledgemusic copy of this (originally released by Juliana as the first on her own label) with a new vinyl release by American Laundromat.

I remember the angry, conflicted letter she posted to her blog/website back then, and she was feeling pretty disillusioned. The album reflects that angry confusion.

Hard to believe it’s been 20 years since then.

Juliana Hatfield, “The Edge of Nowhere” from “Please Do Not Disturb” 1997

I'm back stumping for local girl and prolific talent #JulianaHatfield. She seemingly can’t write anything that isn’t catchy, but even so, never sounds hackneyed; and everything she performs sounds cool as a 70° F breeze chasing away a 100°+ summer day.

Please Do Not Disturb was issued as an #EP, and its songs were also included on Japanese versions of her 1998 full length release “Bed” in her catalogue as deep and long as a #SomervilleMA road-digging project.

In recent years she’s hopped onto the #vinyl color-variant bandwagon (and gotten me with FOMO more than once😳) and I’m not a fan of her recent string of covers albums, but I suspect all this helped keep her afloat during and post-COVID lockdown and is helping finance her ability to keep putting out original work, so good on ya, Juliana!

  7. #JulianaHatfield 's cover of ELO's "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" is so fucking good... #nowPlaying

  8. Been listening to that new Lemonheads song from their upcoming album and it was in my head when I woke up this morning. And it's still stuck there. So here it is again, ICYMI when I posted it before, and so maybe it'll get stuck in your head. 🍋

  9. Momma - Welcome to My Blue Sky

Momma continues to channel 80/90s-ish female led bands like Veruca Salt, Belly, Juliana Hatfield, Throwing Muses, etc, while adding their own sweet spin.

(The flexi, in this case, is the single “I Want You (Fever)”, which is also on the record...)

  10. Juliana Hatfield - How to Walk Away

My favorite late-period Juliana Hatfield album, finally out on LP.

Andy Chase of Ivy produced, and it has a polish that most of Juliana’s albums do not have (which isn’t to say they’re not great, just different). It’s a clear push for a larger audience…and it failed to achieve its goal, even while it’s terrific.

Chase encouraged her to pitch the songs down a key, which brings out a different quality in her voice.

  11. Juliana Hatfield - Pussycat

Juliana released this in 2017, for pretty obvious reasons. Similarly obvious why to play it again.

  12. Juliana Hatfield - There's Always Another Girl

Back when PledgeMusic was a thing, back in 2011, back when artists were making a go of the “patron" model, I pledged for this, Juliana’s 11th (!) solo album.

This (along with its predecessor) pivots back to early Juliana: guitar, drums, bass, sometimes keyboard, often played by Juliana, harmonizing with herself (as compared to How to Walk Away)…and the lyrics are pointed, weary-yet-defiant.

  13. Juliana Hatfield - Bed

It was only six years into Juliana's career, but her label had dropped her, an album was shelved, and unfortunately she was kind of…stuck.

After the relatively large production of Only Everything, Bed stripped things down to a trio format, toughened up the sound, and was recording in a few days in Rhode Island.

But every time she zigged, the market zagged and… again, this good album just didn't hit. But it *is* good.

  14. The Juliana Hatfield Three - Whatever, My Love

And, 486 days after that post, this LP being the second.

22 years after the first - a new, really great follow-up. Juliana does some of her best writing for this particular combo.

  15. I LOVE Juliana Hatfield. There will be more from her, but for now enjoy this Descendents cover.

  16. 🗓️ February Album Writing Month starts in 2 DAYS >> FAWM.ORG

One of the most intimidating things about sitting down to make music is the pressure to make it amazing. But you've got to write a lot of bad, stupid stuff to get to the very best. FAWM is all about letting go of what keeps you from creating, if that's what you need!

  18. CW: 12) Field - "Gorgon" - Juliana Hatfield

Unrepentantly feminine singing and skilled guitarwork in the bro-ish post-grunge landscape, and in the decades since.

Here, Juliana gives voice to the anger, fear and longing experienced by many femmes, singing of sisters, crushes, body image, broken hearts.

  20. Saw the #Lemonheads & #JulianaHatfield at the Union Transfer in #Philly last night. I just realized the following:

the Lemonheads cover of Mrs. Robinson is actually older (30 years) than Simon & Garfunkel's Mrs. Robinson was (24 years) at the time the it was released. 😳
