  1. Spring has sprung in Sheffield, UK. Lots of apple, pear and quince blossom. I planted the quince tree in February/March 2021 and had three fruit from it last year. Last autumn was a mast year for walnuts. I have at least four seedlings from the (Juglans nigra) black walnuts that I gathered. #sheffield #juglansnigra #cydona #quince #walnut

Im Innenhof des #StAnnenMuseum #Lübeck vorgestern bei Sturm. ein beeindruckender Baum. Ich hatte etwas Sorge darunter durch zu gehen.

  3. How many people here go looking for chestnuts/marrons/castaniens in the autumn? In the UK, Sheffield, there don't seem to be too many. A tree that had absolutely loads in 2023 is barren this year. I have only managed to find two pocketfuls. There is a black walnuts though that is having an absolute mast year. #chestnut #castana #marrons #juglans #juglansnigra #sheffield #autumn #nuts #uk

  4. There has been lots said about 2024 being a poor year for pumpkins and squash in the UK. It has also been notable for: squirrels ring barking sycamore trees, causing a lot of crown death; tiny walnuts; tiny chestnuts. Chestnuts are 25mm max; green walnuts 40mm. Unlikely to have formed a kernel. I have germinated walnuts three years of the last six and chestnuts last year. I doubt it will happen this year. #autumn #chestnuts #sheffield #walnut #juglansnigra #castanea

  5. @evan So, how's about planting Eastern Black Walnut, not native to the UK, but a good looking tree all the same? Grown from seed from trees here #juglansnigra #sheffield #reforestingengland

  6. @bryson I'll put a picture up tomorrow, but where I planted some black walnuts last Autumn, I have got lovage growing. I can only assume it was in used compost... #lovage #walnuts #juglansnigra Not expecting any shots off the walnuts for another month
