"in her wheelchair, she can show students, handicapped or normal, that the desire to teach…” - it was a long time ago, but it's wild that writing like this was ever considered OK.

It's an interesting read, especially when you pay attention to how the way we write about disability has changed over the years.

"Wheel chair" is always two words. "Handicapped persons” and “the physically handicapped" come up again and again.

Ich weiß nicht mehr, wann ich das erste Mal von #JudyHeumann gehört habe. Sie war schon immer da, seit ich selbst aktivistisch unterwegs bin. Aber was sie alles bewegt und geleistet hat, habe ich eigentlich erst durch das Video von Drunk History so richtig verstanden.
Dann kam die tolle Dokumentation CripCamp auf Netflix. Die nicht nur den Kampf um #Section504 zeigt, sondern auch wie das schlussendlich zum #ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act, führte. Immer dabei: Judy Heumann.
