Random idea germinating during #jsm2024 StatEd talks:

What if we scored student work like Olympic gymnastics, with a separate "difficulty" and "execution" score?

I feel like the standard "points off for some thing wrong" grading style discourages trying newer or more complex things, especially in coding.

I would love to see the student who *mostly* executes a deeper analysis get a better grade than one who *perfectly* excutes a very basic one.

Has anyone tried something like this? 🤔

the Joint Statistical Meetings, a huge conference, will be here in Portland in _TWO WEEKS_. I finally took a look at the schedule, and I will be running around going to a million sessions starting Sunday afternoon.

(also the online schedule doesn't let you save sessions, so good luck trying to be organized)
