  1. Between getting/recovering from covid and the start-of-semester madness, I'd totally forgotten to share my pre-recorded talk recording (which could not be played live due to tech constraints).

So here is "Sublayer Modularity in the Grammar of Graphics"! - youtube.com/watch?v=613Q0j6Kjm0

Hoping to turn it into a blog post / package vignette soon for the video-averse.

  2. Our final session of was a whistle-stop tour of various projects at Google, covering YouTube, Google Maps, and Google Search. A fascinating and eye-opening session!

  3. If you are at come hear about the career experiences of long term members of the section of statistics and data science education in panel “Careers in Teaching Undergraduate Statistisl and Data Sciences: Who? What? Where? Why? How?”

  4. My students are absolutely kicking butt in the #jsm2023 session on testing statistical graphics.

  5. Check out panel session today, Engaging the Modern Student in Stats and DS! Speakers, including myself, will be showing off how they use games in their classrooms to get students interested.

  6. Tuesday morning at #JSM2023 and we have two talks about continuous #GravitatiionalWaves. Unfortunately they're in simultaneous sessions. So you have your pick between me talking in the topic contributed session "Pulling Signal out of Noise for Data-Driven Discoveries in Astronomy" or Alan Knee in the invited session "The True North Strong and ... Amazing at Astrostatistics!" #LIGO #Virgo #KAGRA #ContinuousWaves #astrostatistics #NeutronStars #JSM

  7. day two starts with a discussion of the statistical challenges involved in studying the deep universe:

  8. Excited to be at #JSM2023 , my first conference since the pandemic! LMK if you're here and want to meet up

  9. Attending my first in person #JSM this week. It'll be speaking about searches for continuous gravitational waves Tuesday morning in the topic contributed session on "Pulling Signal out of Noise for Data-Driven Discoveries in Astronomy". #JSM2023 #GravitationalWaves #LIGO #Virgo #KAGRA

  11. Very excited to participate on Haley Jeppson’s panel for “Use of Color in Statistical Charts” at #jsm2023! (Sunday 2-4 PM, CC-810)

I’ll use this (in progress) collection of @observablehq notebooks for computing on color:

Thanks to @zeileis, whose colorspace package in R inspired much of this work:

  12. I just sent my husband a YouTube playlist of my class lectures from covid, so that he could use them to console the dog while I'm at #jsm2023 . This is totally a normal thing to do, right?

At least the pupper will get some statistics training? #academia #dogs

  13. @statstas Yes, they just sent the link by email, and I've installed it, but it doesn't seem too usable. Very slow to respond to things like typing in search terms, only search one day at a time, etc. 😞 Also inconvenient (but less important) that I had to create a new account instead of using my ASA credentials. #JSM2023 #JSM #ASA

  14. Feeling a mix of nervous and excited for my first stats conf at 🥺

Please say hi! - I'm presenting my paper "Sub-layer modularity in the Grammar of Graphics" at the Statistical Computing & Graphics student award session

I'll be talking about {ggtrace} (again), this time focusing more on the what/why: "What is sublayer modularity and why should we care (more) about it as users/practitioners of the grammar of graphics?" Of course, still plenty of R and ggplot that I'll nerd out about 😃

  15. Has anyone figured out how to keep track of which #JSM2023 sessions to attend other than searching on the program and then copying the information (more or less by hand) into a calendar app? I don't see any way to bookmark sessions in the online program, or to export them as calendar files. #JSM #statistics

  16. Are you presenting a paper at #JSM2023 or #ESRA23 on survey statistics and methodology? Consider submitting your manuscript to JSSAM!

JSSAM takes full articles (6500 words) and research notes (3000 words). Review pieces are welcome!

    Details are here:

  17. ✈️ Off to Canada tomorrow for , and all of the maple goodness Canada has to offer 🍁

Also excited to talk about research in person!
