New release of Fern TUI notetaking and journal today with v1.2.0!
Aside from lots of bugfixes and stabilizing improvements to the codebase, some notable items were:
- New languages added, deeper translation of UI & better pluralization (p11n)
- In-app settings editor
- Templates support looping and date offsets for injections
Super huge thanks to @[email protected] for their contributions with Polish 🇵🇱 translations AND Snap yaml config!! :neofox_aww: We're live on the Snapcraft store now: https://snapcraft.io/fern. Couldn't have done it without their guidance.
Release notes are here: https://codeberg.org/InodeLabs/fern/releases/tag/v1.2.0
:boost_request: Boosts are most appreciated and welcome to help share! Feedback is most welcome!

Looking to add some color to my daily #journalling - what do you recommend? Currently I use A5 notebook & black pens
Colored pens? Oil crayons? Colored pencils? Other ideas?
If you've got something that works great for you, please share - pictures & inspiration would be great to see.

Second year of keeping a #diary:
- going all in on the ring binding system, including getting the overpriced puncher was the right choice. I know from the past already that enriching the diary by taping or gluing stuff in just doesn't work for me. Punch a hole in it and clip it in works perfectly. I think without the puncher I wouldn't like it half as much.
- self design & print also 👍
- frequency and monthly reviews have room for improvement. -

Art, sex, nature: why is everything sold to us as a means to an end, rather than an end in itself?
How a reductive worldview is stripping meaning from our most valued activities.

By the way: a few days ago I finally finished my custom traveller's notebook cover / wallet!
All in all I'm very happy with how it turned out. There are a few things I might adjust or do differently for a V2. For example, the money compartment could be a little wider and attaching bias tape straight is harder than I thought.
I'll have to tinker with the closing mechanism: in theory, there are magnets and ferrofoil in there, but although I tested it and thought it should work, in practice the adhesion through the two layers of leather is so weak that you barely notice it :( Maybe I'll try bigger magnets or a magnetic button.
But still, most things work just as planned in real usage and the aesthetics work as I hoped! I enjoyed working with this cork leather a lot (sadly the shop I got it from closed down, so I'll have to look somewhere else for fuzure projects).
The hardest thing for me about this project was serial decision paralysis. Since I planned this all by myself from scratch, every single measurement and design was a decision I had to figure out. Which was especially hard to do starting from a blank page. For my next project I'll probably do something guided with a pattern to recuperate :D
If and when I'll find the time, I'll sort out and upload my plans, in case anyone wants to make something similar themselves :D
