A man who turns to fortune-telling to assuage his conscience. A society that chooses its victims through a lottery. Today it's the dark philosophy of "The Lottery in Babylon" and "The Fortune-Teller."

CW: CW: Suddenly heavy subjects, kinda sweary
That's interesting, I was thinking more of the conservative movements of the 1970s, how Chuck Colson took Nixon's defeat, and basically said, "Never again," creating a coalition of political forces and propaganda ("Faux News" and the like) to basically make their own pocket universe.
Current events read WAY too much like #Tlön Uqbar, Orbis Tertius by #JorgeLuisBorges these days. (It's a [must read] if you haven't already. ;)

A quotation from Jorge Luis Borges
Dictatorships foster oppression, dictatorships foster servitude, dictatorships foster cruelty; more abominable is the fact that they foster idiocy.
