Finally migrated 20 years worth of notes from Evernote, google keep, apple notes, and randomly scattered notes.txt, temp.txt, todo.txt, daily.txt etc. on various devices... to @joplinapp!
Encrypted, synced, no more trying to figure out where did I store *that* partiular note... (although there may be a few strays out there I still need to discover). Feels like freedom.

I've ended up on Obsidian primarily due to the way it suits me as a markdown editor, but i will still recommend #Joplin all day long. I used it for several years and really did love it.

I switched to Jopin for my cross platform note taker a while ago. One thing I discovered today is that I can use check boxes in it. I add a checkbox to the markup either by clicking on the checkbox button or typing "- [ ]" in the markup. I can then check the box by clicking on it in the rendered page. This will be great for keeping track of to do lists!
BTW, I found this by asking Perplexity.

Pete, I know you didn't ask for advice about Joplin, so apologies for this unsolicited advice: configure the built-in backup plugin to auto-backup your notes every N hours/days, somewhere on your system drive. Better to have more than a single backup (the default value, I think, is seven).
After setting it up, test your configuration for accuracy of backup and for ability to import it back into Joplin.
Why do all this?
Given the vagaries of various operating systems on smartphones and desktop computers, and of the connectivity between devices, synchronization is a tricky business for any cross-device, cross-platform app. There may be race conditions, or the connection may abruptly fail, or the operating system may throttle or kill the synchronization for whatever reasons; so data loss can happen. If you have a backup copy, you can simply import the lost data, and get back to work.Also, your backup plugin may create a backup after data loss happens, but before you register the loss. In such cases, having multiple backup copies allows you to use the best version to recover your data.
Remember also that Joplin itself retains note history (by default, for 90 days), so recovery of lost data should be possible within the app itself. But I do think setting up multi-copy auto-backup outside of the app's operating zone is still good practice.
Ignore if you have already done this. 😄

My only suggestion: do not get seduced by markdown's ease of use. Do not try to use it indiscriminately. Do not use it for documents that require complex markup (text with lots of subscripts/superscripts, mathematical equations, chemical formulae, nested sections, tables, columns, etc.), or even for simple but very long documents (long-form writing, books).
Basically, limit its use to short documents/notes that require very little markup.
This article is a good overview of the benefits and limitations of markdown.
As an aside, I hope djot replaces markdown as the most popular lightweight markup language in the near future.

Soweit ich es verstehe muss der Scan von PDFs am Desktop stattfinden. Dann werden diese Inhalte auch am Smartphone etc. gefunden.

Markdown Workaround Lokal und Mobil
Ein weiteres Thema, dass danke #Apple und Co nicht sonderlich einfach zu händeln ist. Mir geht es hier um den Ersatz für "Apple Notes". Markdown ist ein wunderbarer Ersatz. Unter Linux ist das kein Problem, wie auch ein guter Artikel auf "Linux-Content.org" zeigt:

Wie man hier sieht, habe ich mir unter Linux also #ReText runtergeladen.
Unter meinem #tuxedo OS (Ubuntu) ließ er sich problemlos über Dolphin laden und es sieht wunderbar aus, nicht zu überladen, nicht zu kompliziert.
Die Dateien liegen bei mir auf meinem NAS (ausschließlich intern) und dort wird über die #Nextcloud synchronisiert. Damit hab ich das Thema für den Laptop quasi abgeschlossen. Nun kommt aber die Mobile Komponente.#iOS / #iPadOS
Hier hab ich mal gesucht und fand 2 Lösungen:
Die erste und einfachste ist, sich z.B. ein Tool wie "1Writer" zu kaufen (5,99 Euro zum Zeitpunkt der Erstellung dieses Artikels). Damit kann ich per WebDav eine Verbindung aufbauen zur Nextcloud, kann dort einen Ordner in der App auswählen und somit direkten Zugriff auf dieselben Files nehmen.
Das funktioniert schnell und zuverlässig in meinen Tests. Solltet Ihr da noch andere Apps kennen, gern her damit. Mein Ziel ist es gewesen, nicht alle Files erst auf das Handy oder Tablet zu ziehen, zu bearbeiten und dann wieder hochzuladen. Ich möchte sie direkt bearbeiten.
Den Nextcloud Editor nutze ich deswegen nicht, weil er nicht sauber funktioniert. Freie Zeilen werden anders erkannt, Aufzählungen gerne durcheinandergewürfelt usw.Die zweite Möglichkeit ist #Joplin mit der #joplinapp
Vorteil hier, man kann es entweder direkt über die Nextcloud synchronisieren, oder aber #Joplinsync nutzen (unterschiedliche Preiskategorien). Die Server hierfür liegen in Frankreich, laut Aussage von Joplin.
Eine App, sauberers Markdown soweit ich das sehe, übersichtlich und mit der Synchronisation problemlos nutzbar. Beim Synchronisieren über die Nextcloud kommt es bei einigen zu langen Sync- Zeiten, liegt eventuell am Anbieter oder Server, da hab ich nichts näheres.
Nachteil ist natürlich, dass man zusätzlich zahlen muss. Die texteditor Auswahl ist allerdings bei iOS nicht sonderlich prickelnd, sofern man die Nextcloud als Ausgang nimmt und nicht Apple iCloud, was bei mir Bedingung ist.Obsidian fiel raus, weil ich einmal nicht sehen kann, wo die Server liegen (soll welche in Asien, Europa usw. geben und man soll die wählen können) und weil die Software nicht Open ist.

Am Mac etwas direkt als PDF in den #joplinapp Sync Ordner drucken/speichern. Geht. Mein Blatteinzugsscanner kann auch direkt nach Joplin scannen. Sehr fein.

Needless to say, forcing the sync is only an option if I am FULLY SURE I only created new notes on the other device, so getting this error again would be a big big problem. SO I would really like to get this working properly without hickups...

Dear Joplin users,
I set up Joplin a while ago to sync locally to the filesystem, i.e. a folder on my laptop. This folder is synced to a Nextcloud (i.e I am NOT using WebDAV to have Joplin talk directly to Nextcloud).
I set this up on two devices. On the first I created the directory and started the sync. On the second one I enabled the sync after the Nextcloud sync was finished. This worked back then, i.e. after creating a note on one device it showed up on the other after some time.
One of the laptops was off for some weeks and while the Nextcloud sync is properly finished and the actual files in the Joplin sync folder seem to be present, Joplin still did not show newer notes. Clicking on "Sync" multiple times did not help.
I forced a sync, overwriting the local files. All of the notes appeared after a restart. Nothing changed in Nextcloud.
Does anyone else have this issue? Any ideas how to avoid this? Or debug this in case it happens again?

Bin von der Suche in @joplinapp ( #JoplinApp) recht begeistert. In einigen tausend Notizen mit hunderten Fotos und PDFs findet die App Begriffe nicht nur im Text sondern auch in Bildern und PDFs. Und das in Skundenbruchteilen oder einer Handvoll Sekunden.

In den letzten Tagen habe ich mich wieder mehr mit der #JoplinApp beschäftigt. Vieles an Notizen gelöscht und dafür auch einiges hereingeholt.
So sehr ich #Diarium gelobt habe (und es weiter tue) - ich integriere mein "Tagebuch" in Joplin und auch Teile aus #Todoist.
Daraus werden wohl im August mehrere Blogartikel entstehen.

Wirkt schon mal recht cool, da jede Karte quasi auch eine eigene Notiz sein kann (aber nicht muss). Damit habe ich eine Möglichkeit Notizen einfach zu sortieren und auf einem anderen Weg zu sortieren.

@michaelhimsolt Auch eine interessante Methodik. #Bear ist noch dazu ein gutes Werkzeug. Das verknüpfen mit anderen Dingen ist interessant und habe ich auch mit #JoplinApp überlegt. Aber alles hat seine Vor- und Nachteile und ich sammle dann doch einiges Links. Das wäre mir dann für Joplin zu überbordend.

@kreideland Mit ein paar Plugins lässt sich die #JoplinApp ein wenig geschmeidiger gestalten. Aber ja, es ist doch was anderes. Wobei Joplin auch einige Features (wie Erstellungsdatum ändern) hat, die Apple Notes fehlen.

Schade, dass sie die Plugin-Funktion von Joplin nicht erwähnten. Damit könnte man auch die benannte Fadesse der fehlenden Fotos in der Artikelliste "beheben".

@bammerlaan as a #markdown #note taker and #editor, #joplinapp seems fine, but with a few caveats.
There are no readily available undo and redo buttons, the image note taking took a long time to save and the first thing I saw when opening a note was a request for location data... that kind of rubs me the wrong way.
But it's got notebooks and it's got tags - and weirdly enough, a plugin system? Like if they redo this app in modern design with optimization, it'll definitely be a contender.
