It's a sad state of affairs when so much of the news is missing the forest for the trees on this story. Its an affront to the constitution that the National Guard is do just general policing patrol without any particular mission all against local officials wishes.

On the ground reporting from DC tonight indicates that the illegally deployed National Guard troops have largely stood down for the night and have abondened their "high visibility" patrols which had become common in DC.
