in July 2024, when I deleted my twitter account, I had 487 follower.

Now:
On #Mastodon I have over 500 follower
And on #Pixelfed I have over 200 follower
(many overlapping of course)

And everyone of you is much more worth than anyone on the birdsite (unless you've already followed me on the birdsite)

hey pixelfed users and pixelfed admins - is the "retoot" / "repost" function working for you?

For me it seems not, it doesn't matter which app I'm using or if I'm using the web interface.

So, after deleting all my art from Instagram and Facebook in an anti-AI, anti-Meta rage over the weekend, I am more serious than ever about finding a decent Pixelfed server.
Before I join one of the instances I have shortlisted, does anybody have any recommendations for small-ish English language instances that disallow AI art, amongst a generally robust moderation policy?

Actually I just was able to see #joinpixelfed on Instagram. I added it to a picture of my dog. We'll see what happens.

Meta blocked #joinPixelfed a month ago (later was fixed, multiple ppl can confirm), I’ve tried to be understanding and respectful but why?

I’ve never been contacted by them about p92 and never attended any meetings, do you honestly think I would work with meta????

They helped kill #XMPP with a bait-and-switch by pretending adoption and then pulling out as soon as it was practical for them. Exactly what other “potential bad actions” and red lines are you waiting for? Do you expect them to come out explicitly telling you «oh yeah we'll kill AP as soon as we're done using it to kill Twitter and BlueSky, and all we'll need to do is just defederate».

@tchambers @fancysandwiches we're taking about the company that censors the #joinPixelfed tag on Instagram, the company that “played nice” with #XMPP only to pull the plug to sink it. We already know they do not want the Fediverse to succeed. There is literally no reason to “trust” them in any way, and we can expect them to pull the same shit with ActivityPub as soon as convenient for them, and we have NO TOOL IN OUR TOOLBOX to prevent that from happening.

@dansup You can currently search #joinPixelfed on Instagram and find some hits, but it is a suspiciously low number. It says "fewer than 100" and displays a lot fewer than that. So, perhaps partial blocking?

Instagram blocked the #joinPixelfed hashtag not long ago, and Twitter too.

I'm sure you can see now why I am less than thrilled about the enthusiasm with which people are looking at #Facebook “joining” the #Fediverse with their #ActivityPub-compatible #Twitter clone, despite there being literally NO INDICATIONS that their attitude today is any different from the one at the time of #XMPP —and if anything, the opposite, as we've seen with #Instagram blocking the #joinPixelfed tag.

I wonder if it would be appropriate to use the term #tankie to refer to people on the #Fediverse that are over the moon with delight at the idea of Meta (the company that blocks the #joinPixelfed tag on #Instagram) “joining” the Fediverse with their own Mastodon competitor.

The only measure in which this news can be viewed positively is that the decision confirms the #Fediverse as a threat to the social silos. Let's keep it this way. Do not trust #Facebook. Do not forget that just last week #Instagram tried to block the #joinPixelfed tag <https://mastodon.social/@pixelfed/110338112401101688>, lest people became aware of the existence of the world outside, a world that still has the appeal of early-days IG, and not subject to the threat of enshittification.
