一开始只是一部平淡无奇的纪录片（甚至把它称作是vlog都完全恰当），短短六集分了好几次才看完，而且至少有三次是看着睡着的。
但渐渐的就从看似荒诞和戏谑的镜头与语调一马平川的旁白里品出了什么味道，一种独有的、生动的东西。于是，你决定把它当作一副纽约侧写，像用叉子蒯下一角蛋糕一样品尝一口这座城市。
然后猝不及防地，被现实糊了一脸。最后一集在一个看似毫不相关的话题上遭遇了乙型非典的直击，并且勾连起了之前的每一集；那些遥远的、景观式的他者生活切片，突然就近在眼前了。
在任何对话中，我都不会以「对了，你看过XX吗？我觉得很值得看」的句式哪怕提到这部作品，但当有人跟我说「我前段时间看了一部纪录片觉得很有意思，叫how to……」，我会平静地、但满足地回应——是啊，我也很喜欢——并且因此更喜欢对方。
