Watson murió en 1958.
Y el pequeño Albert desapareció de la historia durante décadas.
Ese es precisamente uno de los motivos por los que el caso se convirtió en una leyenda dentro de la psicología.
Un bebé fue llevado a un laboratorio.
Le enseñaron deliberadamente a tener miedo.
Después se marchó.
Y los investigadores no pudieron completar la parte destinada a quitarle ese miedo.
Eso es lo que está documentado.
Lo que no podemos afirmar con seguridad es que Albert viviera toda su vida traumatizado por aquel experimento.
La historia es suficientemente inquietante sin necesidad de añadirle algo que no podemos demostrar.
Y quizá lo más revelador sea aquella frase de Watson antes de comenzar:
consideraban que podían hacerle «relativamente poco daño».
En 1920 aquello podía parecer una justificación científica.
Hoy sabemos que **un bebé no puede consentir participar en una investigación y que provocar deliberadamente miedo en un niño sin garantizar después su eliminación constituye una violación ética grave**.
Little Albert no fue una leyenda.
La rata existió.
El ruido existió.
El miedo fue provocado deliberadamente.
Y las propias notas de los investigadores dejaron constancia de ello.

Spent 3 hours today recording the vocals for the next Duo Ex Machina song “Listening”. It’s inspired by the idea of John Watson seeing and hearing Sherlock everywhere in London when Sherlock is missing, presumed dead, at Reichenbach.
