In 1830, after losing re-election to one of the most monstrous men to (at the time) ever become President, Andrew Jackson, John Quincy Adams did the unexpected.
He ran for a seat in the House of Representatives and continued to fight Andrew Jackson for the rest of his career in Washington.
He also aggressively fought against war with Mexico, for Indigenous Americans' rights, for women's rights, joined the abolitionist movement, won the battle to stop the Congressional "gag order" whereby Congress refused to take up legislation banning slavery.
He didn't surrender in the face of a white nationalist President who defeated him at the ballot box; he brushed it off and fought harder.
We need more politicians like that today.
