El conflicto bélico más importante del siglo XX había terminado poco tiempo atrás. Estados Unidos se había ganado la categoría de superpotencia superando ampliamente la importancia ganada en la Gran Guerra de 1914. A su vez, el enfrentamiento con la Unión Soviética iba tomando forma. Pero eso poco importaba en Queens, cuando Estelle y Frank celebraban la llegada de John el 8 de octubre de 1948. El pequeño, promediando los años 50´ y gracias al incesante andar del gramófono instalado en el bar donde trabajaban sus padres en Long Island, ingresó al mundo del rock and roll de la mano de Elvis como lo haría toda su generación, aunque en el caso de Johnny, la devoción por el rey era compartida, entre otros, con Jerry Lee Lewis y Fats Domino. La otra pasión del niño era el béisbol, que lo practicaba incesantemente mientras su padre miraba sus partidos escondido para no presionarlo. Pero sería el largo de su pelo el que terminaría decidiendo el mundo que elegiría. O las visiones sociales sobre él. Una turbulenta vida adolescente lo acercaron al mundo del delito callejero y, junto a las drogas, le presagiaban un destino difícil. Sin embargo, la música, siempre presente mientras su vida transcurría, le tenía deparado un lugar destacado. Fue en 1974, cuando la exigua audiencia del CBGB fue testigo de su silueta paseándose inquieta a la derecha de Joey con las piernas abiertas y el cuerpo levemente inclinado hacia atrás. Los dedos ágiles y veloces de #JohnnyRamone y sus exiguos pero vertiginosos solos de guitarra le abrieron el camino a miles de jóvenes en el mundo que vieron la posibilidad de hacer música sencilla pero efectiva sin la necesidad del virtuosismo imperante en esos años. Desde entonces, ya nada volvió a ser igual.
