Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, Ella at Duke’s Place, 1966 on Verve
The album is divided between “The Pretty, The Lovely, The Tender, The Hold-Me-Close Side” and “The Finger-Snapping, Head-Shaking, Toe-Tapping, Go-For-Yourself Side.” Recorded by Val Valentin and produced by Norman Granz (those are his black & white photos), this is Verve at its mid-60s best.

Johnny Hodges and his Orchestra - Blues A-Plenty
Hodges, away from the Duke, focusing on a bunch of great blues numbers with great sidemen like Billy Strayhorn, Ben Webster, Jimmy Woode, Roy Eldridge, Vic Dickenson, and Sam Woodyard.
Given a new mastering by Bernie Grundman, and a great pressing by QRP…this is a definite winner.

Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges Play the Blues - Back to Back
As you might expect, an LP full of great blues songs (only one of which is a real 12-bar blues, per the liner notes).
Weary Blues is especially interesting, and the intro section is great. Nice to hear Royal Garden Blues again, too (it’s on Don Byron’s much later Bug Music, in a very different version).
