Solid Air by John Martyn
Martyn had an unmistakable voice: mellow but challenging. His modern folk, heavily infused with jazz is timeless, and this, his 4th album from 1973 has him at his very best.
This is a 2013 repress from BackToBlack and is an excellent pressing. -

John Martyn - Solid Air
Danny Thompson, who played bass on this album—as well as lots of others—died last week.I saw Martyn live in 1985, at one of those free festivals put on by the GLC, when they were using up all the money before being disbanded by Thatcher. I think he was a bit lost on me at the time. I was waiting for Gil Scott-Heron to come on. I wish I'd appreciated it more, but there you go. Looking at the setlist, it would've been great.
I probably don’t need to say what a fine album this is.
There's a rather good docco about Martyn made by the BBC, Johnny Too Bad, which is well worth a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0DVynJD4jE&t=4s(it's on YouTube) It might be time to give it another watch.

I'm apparently entering my middle-aged-Scot period proper now, since I just picked up a moderately rare* pressing of #JohnMartyn's "One World" for way less than I ever expected to find it.
Back in my days in Echo Records on Byre's Road in Glasgow, he was ridiculously popular with our customers (for all I know he was one himself, since CaVa Studios was just up the road), and now I finally get why. Shame he was such a trainwreck...

Do you know in those album covers choices i made recently I suddenly feel guilty for not choosing John Martyn's One World. I was peak new wave when that came out & John Peel was the place to listen but remember him playing Small Hours, in amongst The Pistols, Clash,Costello, Buzzcocks etc & it was absolutely mesmerizing.
