  4. #JohnDowland was buried 400 years ago today. As we know neither his birthday nor the day of his passing, the burial day must do as a peg for anniversary celebrations ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dow #renaissance #earlyMusic

  5. Listen to this, because it is the best.

Imagine if John Dowland — Renaissance lutenist — got a chance to haul on the Bigsby of a hollowbody guitar and play like The Shadows with all of the twang. It would sound like this.

The guitarist is John Bisset, stalwart of the UK improv scene, maker of very odd skits with Ivor Kallin, and (apparently) plumber and property maintenance guy.

  7. I'm going to start doing #MusicMonday for you because I need something to think about that isn't forever dread.
Today is: The Frog Galliard by #JohnDowland, played on lute by Paul O'Dette.
JD is one of my favourite composers, he is a renaissance composer who mostly composed for lute. It's a calm piece and this recording is for solo lute - though there are (anonymous) lyrics set to it which you can find here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_o_
