The #IdSoftware co-founder and Doom co-creator officially left Meta on Friday night, according to an internal company memo obtained by Insider and confirmed by The New York Times. Carmack’s departure message serves as a scathing indictment of crippling inefficiency at Meta that he said he was “offended by” and that he compared to a GPU with a measly 5 percent utilization rate. “We have a ridiculous amount of people and resources, but we constantly self-sabotage and squander effort. There is no way to sugar coat this,” he wrote. “I think our organization is operating at half the effectiveness that would make me happy.”

Die Rede ist von Doom III, seinen Eigenheiten, der Rezeption, und natürlich, am wichtigsten, des Charakters. Wenn die Ausrichtung, welche Doom damit nahm, so genannt werden kann.

    I'm sorry, but how were they a leader? I mean, were they ever a leader in anything other than having the biggest #SocialNetwork at some point?

    Yeah they did #VR stuff, with #HorizonWorlds, but Horizon never really took off, and I'm not really sure that the #Occulus counts when it's an aquihire and #JohnCarmack left after they wouldn't let him keep expanding. Same with #AI, they did some stuff, but I don't remember it ever being like, the "big thing in AI".

    I'm pretty sure #Zuckerburg got richer than his parents off of this #SocialNetworking thing, realized that having a bunch of users doesn't actually pay a bunch of money, and is now struggling to figure out how to turn those financed assets into profits.

John Carmack (Doom, Quake, that virtual reality headset - you know the man) talks about AI, AGI and why training with classical Atari 2600 games is a great way for the ghost in the machine to learn. I did not expect this and thought that AI playing Atari was "done" (i.e.: solved, no need to look into that further) some years ago actually. But as it turns out: There is still more to it.     Tooling ist für jedes Produkt wichtig, aus Gründen die im Produktmanagement häufig übersehen oder ignoriert werden. John Carmack hat sich vergangene Woche in die Debatte um KI eingebracht, nachdem Microsoft sein Quake von 1996 mit KI in Copilot gebracht hat.
