  1. I was born well after the release of either of these movies, but Rocky Horror Picture Show and Cabaret, and specifically Dr Frank-N-Furter and the MC respectively, have been instrumental in discovering my own identity (and Rocky Horror, the character, surely helped me discover my sexuality, that too).

The queerness of it all, the masculinity that dripped off both of them but in a radically different way, their performance that never stops no matter how small the moment. The unapologetically being who you are.

First time I saw either movie I couldn't quite recognise it within myself but as a kid stuck in a hostile village, and within a hostile home, it awoke something which I continue to hold onto today.

Culture in all its forms is incredibly important and formative, especially for those of us who may have nothing else to hold onto early in life. We have to continue to fight against a conservative mono-culture and the slop (not just AI) that they try to push on us. It is vital that we do so in the most literal sense.

And, within Europe, we have to celebrate our own culture more. It is ridiculous our shared culture is almost exclusively US American while we create the most wonderful things rights here at home too.

#Cabaret is "new" to you? 🤦

The winner of 8 #Oscars in 1972, including Best Director (#BobFosse), Best Actress (#LizaMinelli), Best Supporting Actor (#JoelGrey) but not Best Movie. That award went to #TheGodfather. 🤷

  20. 40 years ago this week, "Remo's Theme (What If)" by #TommyShaw entered the #Top100 at 90. It peaked at 81 on 19 Oct 1985. youtube.com/watch?v=wDW4CV-Ge-4 If you don't remember, it was the theme song from "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins". The adventure never continued in theatres, but there was a TV pilot called "Remo Williams: The Prophecy". #RoddyMcDowall was Chiun, so they weren't too concerned about the reaction to #JoelGrey's casting. #1980s #MusicHistory #MusicVideo
