Great to be out at #JodrellBank this afternoon to record for the #BBCWorldService #CrowdScience programme with presenter Marnie Chesterton and producer Phil Sansom. The weather played ball, so we were able to record outside. However, the #woodpeckers were determined to be heard! The program, on the #DrakeEquation and the possibility of life elsewhere in the #Galaxy, should appear in mid April on the BBC World Service and on BBC Sounds.

I made an #introduction a couple of weeks ago, but there are more people around now, so here's an introduction to my #research.
I have mainly worked on #RadioAstronomy surveys of neutral hydrogen in the local universe. In my early career, I was part of the HIPASS survey with the #Parkes telescope and the HIJASS survey with the #Lovell telescope at #JodrellBank, and did my #PhD on the HIDEEP survey, also with Parkes. I later led the AGES and WAVES surveys with #Arecibo.

A more technical #introduction for #Astrodon folk. I'm a senior lecturer in #physics and #astronomy at the #university of #Manchester, based at #jodrellbank. I work on the detection of cool #exoplanets using #microlensing. I also lead a #transmission #spectroscopy survey of exoplanet #atmospheres called SPEARNET. Additionally, I've used ideas from #gametheory to develop smart #SETI strategies. Currently deputy lead of #ESA @ec_euclid exoplanet science working group. Lead from next March.
