The reason I ask this is because management has decided my IT systems team will become the business automations team. There's an appetite to do business automations, but they don't want to hire more. All IT systems will be handed off to the endpoint team. I guess our team is the best at automation work, hence the new assignment.

Ofc, they laid off the old business auto team

I'm trying to decide if this is a good thing, or if I should jump ship.

As the 4th year panic of doctoral studies comes in, I’m beginning the early stages of probing jobs…seems like a lot of tech research postings are exclusively looking for experience in Python/ML. Any insights on the market for people with expert level #r / #rstats programming and strong knowledge working in #c ? 9) Going back to the #JobTalk, I like Betty Lai's advice emphasizing the need to tell a story with your talk.

I generally enjoy presenting my research to an audience (mostly as an escape from writing), but the job talk is a completely different genre. Still learning the rules but getting better.

7) A few weeks ago someone told me your first practice job is always trash (so don't stress and rip off the bandaid).

I gave my first practice job talk yesterday. Calling it trash might be a little too self-deprecating... but let's just say I've got a LOT of revisions to make. Whew.
