  2. The Grind Is a Scam and I’m Done Buying

Daily writing promptDo you need a break? From what?View all responses Everyone keeps asking if I need a break. From what, exactly? From being stretched thin by a job that sucked the life out of every square inch of my patience? From pretending bad management and broken systems were somehow my personal growth journey? No. I don’t need a break. I needed an exit. So I quit Domino’s Pizza. Cue the shocked faces. Cue the fake concern. Cue the “are you sure?” like I just announced I’m […]

  3. The Work I Did After I Stopped Working

I quit Domino’s two days ago. Two. Days. And in that microscopic slice of time, I’ve done more actual work at home than I did in months of clocking in, clocking out, and pretending any of it mattered. That should bother me. It doesn’t. It explains everything. For years, I was exhausted but accomplished nothing. That’s the magic trick of modern work. Keep people tired enough they stop asking questions. Keep them busy enough they don’t notice they’re spinning in place. Domino’s […]

  4. Ten Years Was Enough

I did something today that ten years ago would have sounded irresponsible, dramatic, or flat-out impossible. I quit Domino’s Pizza. Ten years. A full decade of ovens, schedules, skeleton crews, and being expected to care more than anyone else while getting paid like I didn’t. This wasn’t some impulsive, storm-out, flip-the-table moment. This was exhaustion making a decision for me because my brain and body finally filed a joint complaint. Two jobs. Seventy-plus hours a week. Every […]

  11. Leaders’ frequent use of #humor (even low-quality) can push followers to fake positive emotions, especially in high-power distance cultures. This increases #EmotionalExhaustion and lowers #JobSatisfaction.

  12. CW: Re: US pol, US economy

It's also worth noting that how the US officially measures #underemployment is very different from how people think about it. Most assume that if you're #underemployed, you're working in a job that doesn't fully use your skill sets, education, or expertise. But "underemployment" in US economic reports only means people working part time when they want full time work.

US economic reports also only consider people actively looking for work. They don't consider people who are #unemployed but have given up looking for work. Nor do they consider factors like #JobSatisfaction.

There's a lot more going on in the US #economy than just whether there are a lot of open positions or not. Even if there are jobs available, if those jobs don't pay well, aren't engaging people's skills, and aren't treating their employees well, then they're not telling the full story.

  14. What Was The One (1) Personal Purchase That Makes Your Work Day Markedly Better?
    --
For me it was earbuds with microphones for meetings & technical calls, both #WFH so not disturbing the whole house and in the office as well so a little less obtrusive; the microphone is sensitive enough that I can speak on the call in a quiet voice
(and I can listen to a podcast on my lunchtime walk, etc...)

  15. Could eliminating most--or even all--#meetings make your company and team more productive and happier? The answer might be yes. A study of 76 companies that have deliberately reduced or eliminated meetings showed an increase in #JobSatisfaction, #communication, #cooperation, and #productivity, and a decrease in #micromanaging and #stress.

  16. Oh positive feedback, how sweet you be
You're essential in our workforce, you see
A golden paycheck, it will do
But recognition, that's what people need too
Without it, people will surely depart
And of course, with a heavy heart
We all need to feel appreciated
For loyalty's more than just rated

  19. A couple of years ago I moved from my kinda multi-disciplinary UI Engineering role into Design and then quickly into Design Management. Just recently I switched back and it's like a breath of fresh air. I'm having the time of my work life being 'back on the tools'. Actually creating and shipping product is a blast. And I've got 2 years of new practices to learn!
