  4. My favourite version of 'Caminho de Pedra' though is the one sung by #Jobim's son Paulo in his father's forest hideaway, shown in Matti Bauer's german documentary 'Bossa Nova - Geschichte einer brasilianischen Musikbewegung' (2004).

Unfortunately, there is no video of it online. I am very lucky to own a copy of that documentary, sent to me by the director many years ago.

  5. #nowplaying:
Antônio Carlos Jobim – Crônica da casa assassinada (from his 1973 album Matita Perê)

Written mostly in his forest hideaway during the military dictatorship, Matita Perê showed a different side of Jobim, who is widely known for his easy-listening #BossaNova tunes. Most of the songs are about nature or reference works of Brazilian literature, and are of a complexity that reminds of classical music rather than Bossa or Samba. It's my favourite #Jobim album.

  6. I have always been a fan of Frank Sinatra. He was my specialist subject on Mastermind back in the day. The person himself is not for everyone I know, but musically he is sublime. Here he is with Antônio Carlos Jobim singing, “Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars / Corcovado”. Divine.

    Quiet chords from my guitar
Floating on the silence that surrounds us🎵

  7. Musical Interlude: I had several ideas of what to post today...but my local station played this song this morning and I had to share. The lyrics are Portuguese, but describe only what one sees swept up by the March floods in Brazil, but also meditating that water brings life, and hope.

I'm about a month late with this, but it's still one of the great springtime songs.

"Águas de Março (Waters of March)," performed by Elis Regina and Tom Jobim.

  8. Stan Getz & Luiz Boifá - Jazz Samba Encore!

I think all of the Getz Samba albums have made an appearance here, save for this one, but not because it's not an excellent example of the form.

This is another interesting set with Jobim (who, for some reason, doesn't get prime billing with Getz & Bonfá) in the mix.

This came out in 1963, as the initial craze started to fade - but Dad had a copy, in perfect condition.

  12. Morelenbaum2/Sakamoto - Casa

This is a recording that only came out on vinyl in Japan (along with its companion piece, A Day in New York), so my copy is from my CD. It's a beautiful recording of great songs. Someday I'll find a copy of the LP.

Today I found some notes (that I think were the liner notes, too) that I found really interesting and worthwhile, so I thought I'd share.
