While reviewing applications for a software development job I noticed a common issue with cover letters. Applicants have lists of their skills as well as lists of their portfolio sites. Please don't do that. Those go on your resume. Use your cover letter to make the connection between your skills and the position you're applying to.

I see that your company does ... and I did ... which is similar, etc.
