*the doomsday logic was always internally consistent. The world just did not cooperate.*
What happened was after a pessimistic assessment of a situation was made somebody decided to take action to produce a potentially positive outcome. The invisible hand of a market didn’t just make things magically better. Action of some kind is absolutely necessary. And that action is often spurred on by creating actionable urgency.

"The second law of thermodynamics states that entropy in a closed system tends to increase over time. Your codebase is not exempt from this law. Neither is your body, your marriage, your democracy, or your kitchen. ... The universe trends toward disorder with the patient inevitability of continental drift, and the only thing standing between any functional system and chaos is the inglorious, repetitive, thankless work of maintenance." #JoanWestenberg

"Systems like #obsidian promise coherence, but they often deliver abstracted confusion.
Human #memory is not an archive. It is associative, embodied, contextual, emotional. We do not think in folders.
My new system is no system at all. I write what I think. I delete what I don’t need. I don’t capture everything. I read what I feel like. I think in conversation, in movement, in context. I don’t build a #secondbrain I inhabit the first." (#JoanWestenberg)

Are we humans allocating our collective “genius” effectively, @Daojoan wonders? “Because when I look around at our vaunted technological progress, I can't help but notice that we're drowning in slightly better stuff while the rudiments of human flourishing remain stagnant or deteriorate and decay. There's progress here, but it's not science fiction. It's barely even science,” she writes in this essay that also covers how and why we’re trapped in a cycle of over-consumption.

I've recently discovered "Westenberg" which is penned by the eponymous Joan Westenberg. She is also on Mastodon @Daojoan
"Westenberg is a blog where technology, philosophy, creativity, and productivity all come together, tangled and messy. Mostly because that’s how they are in real life."
Her common sense cuts through the bullshit in our lives.
If you're not reading Westenberg, you're missing out.

“The Fediverse Isn’t the Future. It’s the Present We’ve Been Denied.” Here’s yet another brilliant feature by @Daojoan. “The fediverse won’t succeed just because it’s better. It will succeed if and only if people choose it. If they reject the idea that being trapped in someone else’s ecosystem is just the cost of existing online. If they stop believing that “free” means surrendering ownership of your own connections, your own history, your own data. If they see that the internet wasn’t built to be a factory for engagement metrics and AI-generated content farms. It was built to connect us, not silo us to pad a wealth-extremist’s bank account,” she writes.

Why Personal Websites Matter More Than Ever – Joan Westenberg
“HTML was an almost democratizing force, giving a generation of people the tools they needed to stake their claim and plant their flag in the ground. The personal website was a statement of intent, a manifesto, a portfolio, a piece of digital architecture you could be damn proud of.
And then something changed.”

"Don't be afraid to dive into the technical side of things. Embrace the learning curve. Revel in the challenges. Because the more you know, the more power you have. And in the indie economy, knowledge isn't power - it's independence."
