Over Rs 2.18 lakh crore collected by the central government as cess for specific purposes such as education, sanitation and infrastructure have either not been fully transferred to dedicated funds or remain unutilised, according to a Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report.

This protest is met with such violence?
Do you see anything that makes you feel they are 'gundas'??
These are students (most of them who can't afford education in the #newindia that we live in) who are protesting for affordable education. Only people who are anti-education will feel threatened by this.
This gives me more hope in democracy. This gives me an assurance that there are people who will rise against injustice. This makes me proud. -
#jnu is not only the university of the students who study there. It belongs to all of us. Let's stand together with the students who have been protesting for the future of public universities and affordable education. Let's strengthen them, support them, stand with them in whatever way we can.

Section 144 imposed near Parliament. Winter session begins today till Dec 13. Police force deployed outside campus amidst barricades & water canons. Students were to march in organized & peaceful way to save public education & appeal MPs to take up the cause but govt seems to oppose it. They were stopped, bruised & detained. So, fight against authoritarianism continues until demands are met. Education is not the birthright for privileged few.

Kids dying of hunger, people suffering while states are in despair, students being harassed in educational institutions, activists being abused each day online, scholars struggling for what they deserve, educational rights being muzzled more than ever, excessive fee hikes like in JNU. Atleast 3318 present students in #JNU come from families earning <Rs 144000 annually! Hostel charge would be minimum 57K p/a after fee hike. Most of them won't be even able to complete their degrees! Fee Hike is Anti Poor! Education is not for sell!
