Sowas kommt vor. Das uber-lustige daran: Wales wollte das #Buch: #Trust. Die 7 Regeln des #Vertrauen oder wie man #Dinge von #Dauer schafft bewerben. Na, das war aber mal ein trustiges vertrauensvolles interview-ding von Dauer. Vilkeicht hätte wales ja den ghostwriter seines buches zum interview schicken sollen. Der hat es ja vielleicht verstanden. Oder gelesen. -
Vielleicht unpopuläre Meinung: Ich finde den Interview-Stil von Thilo Jung so unerträglich, dass ich das Video ausgemacht habe, bevor Jimmy Wales gegangen ist.

So how toxic is Wikipedia?
Anyone got metrics?
If something like bullying is important then responsible organisations get metrics.
What are the metrics?
How many incidents of bullying per day?
How many suicides, mental health breakdowns, broken marriages etc per year is volunteering at Wikipedia associated with?
Have there been measurable changes with improved self-regulation?
This is all very basic Work, Health and Safety info.

So there’s a new Guardian interview with Jimmy Wales out (to promote his new book, with an affiliate link for the Guardian in it) titled “‘People thought I was a communist doing this as a non-profit’: is Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales the last decent tech baron?”* that’s making the rounds here.
For those who only read the headlines, here’s a TL;DR: No. There is no such thing as decent tech baron, that’s an oxymoron.
From the article itself:
“‘I’m actually quite in favour of business and capitalism and all that.’ (He’s currently president of Fandom, an ad-funded entertainment site that hosts user-edited pages, owned by private equity firm TPG Capital).”

“Does he still regard Musk, the world’s richest man, as a friend? ‘Friends is probably a little strong. I mean, not, not that –‘ he sputters, editing himself in real time. ‘I want to be careful how I say that, only because I’ve met him maybe five or six times, so that I would be overstating to say friends. When something is important and destructive & its been decided to reduce the frequency and severity of the occurrence of it, then its frequency & severity need to be regularly measured to see if the harm reduction measures are working.

I'm giving up on WT.Social. It's a neat idea, but failed to gain critical mass in a reasonable timeframe, and even the upcoming big release 2 doesn't sound like it would alter the fundamentals. And now I've found that the person I read the most from on WTS (the prolific @estherschindler) is on Mastodon as well.
