It was written after the success of Autry's recording of "#RudolphTheRedNosedReindeer" the previous year. Rollins and Nelson shopped the new song to Autry, who recorded "Frosty" in search of another seasonal hit. Like "Rudolph".

It's from the 60s film "Billy Rose's Jumbo", itself based on the 30s Rodgers and Hart musical "Jumbo". The story of a travelling circus, which showed its talent and its animals by marching down Main Street.
The film was panned by the critics, who said there were only two good things in the movie - the music, and the elephant.
