Musification and sonification allows the manipulation of data by non experts.
Self monitoring results in intense control, with an emotional impact, hence the importance of changing the approach to these data.
Representation impacts interpretation of data => find alternate ways of representation
Why musification instead of simply sonification? In order to convey the subjective aspect

We're concerned about the biomechanical aspect of music playing: studying not only shoulder to fingers, but also the torso and the hips.
Interviews + sensor data collection.
Case study on two expert pianists subjects, with six musical pieces.
They were asked, for each piece, to give a "personal" interpretation, and an "objective" one (this last one used as a control condition).
Expressive intentions can have an effect on muscular activity of pianists, but the two subjects implemented opposed neuromotor strategies for expression.

Hierarchical tiles are used to represent rhythmic patterns in a way that lends itself well to transformations (translation, transposition etc)
Musical patterns are represented in a geometric space and have linear transformations applied to them.
Tile = pattern + change of frame.
Tiles can be algebraically composed.
Changes of frame have musical interpretations.
