As a film, Dead Man is a strange, heady, acid-ridden #psychedelic Western, and they couldn’t have asked a more perfect dude to score it.
Neil’s music is exactly what the film looks and feels like.
He improvised the entire score from a recording studio while watching footage from the film, consisting of seven instrumentals, with dialog excerpts from the film threaded between them, as well as Johnny Depp reading the poetry.“You were a poet and a painter. Now you are a killer of white men.”
Incredible find.
I hope the next NYA vinyl box set has this in it.

O Festival de Cinema de Cannes revelou oficialmente o júri da competição principal de sua 79ª edição, formando um painel internacional de nove integrantes que ficará responsável por escolher o vencedor da cobiçada Palma de Ouro. Presidido pelo cineasta sul-coreano Park Chan-wook, o grupo combina nomes de peso da indústria com representantes do cinema autoral contemporâneo, refletindo o equilíbrio tradicional do evento entre prestígio artístico e visibilidade global.
Com um histórico sólido no próprio festival, Park Chan-wook assume a presidência do júri após acumular reconhecimentos importantes na Croisette, incluindo o Grande Prêmio por “Oldboy” e o prêmio de Melhor Direção por “Decision to Leave”. Ele se junta agora a um time que reúne atores, diretores e roteiristas com trajetórias marcadas por passagens relevantes por Cannes.

"Jarmusch’s latest film, Father Mother Sister Brother (2025), is his fifth screen collaboration with Waits (or sixth, counting the score he composed for Night on Earth, 1991). He leads the first episode of this triptych film as “Father,” a brazen hustler and absent parent. At the start, Father is tidying up before a visit from his adult children, Jeff (Adam Driver) and Emily (Mayim Bialik); he disturbs the tastefully arranged decor of his living room and kitchen, a confounding ritual soon revealed to be his usual “show” of financial precarity and pitifulness, a way of pressuring Jeff into giving him money. When Emily, the more suspicious of the two siblings, notices a Rolex on his wrist, he insists that it is a “fugazi” and delicately pulls down his sleeve to hide it. Waits’s nervous hand and clenched teeth are disarming, building a comedic sense of suspense—but it does not take long before he regains his composure, his classic Waits cool, and starts scheming again. At one point, Emily asks if he is on any medications, and, instead of a simple no, he drawls a gravelly, wry litany of all sorts of recreational drugs that he has definitely not taken. Once she clarifies that the question actually pertains to prescriptions, he replies, “You think I should?” His aloof line delivery inspires both chuckles and pathos in equal measure. By the segment’s finale, we see Waits now dressed in a suave YSL suit—Saint Laurent Productions backed the film—about to go court a lady friend in his vintage car."

95 Jahre sind kein Anlass zur Nostalgie. Dafür war die Kunst dieses Mannes immer zu gegenwärtig, zu unbequem, zu wenig versöhnlich. Müller-Stahl war nie der Schauspieler der großen Gesten oder einfacher Positionen. Seine Bedeutung liegt nicht in Widerstandssymbolik, sondern in der präzisen Darstellung von persönlicher Verstrickung. Brugte en aften forleden i selskab med #ThePhoenicianScheme. Jeg er forholdsvist stor fan af mærkelige film, og #WesAnderson falder rimelig solidt i den kategori. Det gør #JimJarmusch også, men det er vist en post for sig selv. Anyway, fantastisk film. Eller mood piece. Eller kunstværk. Jeg ved ikke helt hvad jeg skal kalde det, men det var flot og underholdende. Er vild med hans cinematografi og farvevalg. Det er bare så forbandet lækkert! :-)
