  1. If you live in Portland and do jigsaw puzzles, check this place out. Donate the ones you've already done and pick up some more. They've got more than they know what to do with, so they'll be happy if you donate one and take eight!

  3. Anton & Glenn

What a pair of characters! Glenn was just a pretty weird guy in general, clever . He lived on the second floor of my building. Anton, in the wheelchair is a book all by himself. His leg. That is just one story and here is how it happened. Anton is an alcoholic, what he did before he lost the leg for a living I don’t know, but when first saw him, he was on the corner by the robots begging. He would make enough money and then off to the Bottle Store. He did have a room to sleep in. I got […]

  4. Rand Clinic 1986/7

The Rand Clinic 1986/7 Rolled a car, upside down and flipped over type of jol. Car totalled, boss unhappy, but it was not my fault that time! Anyway. My face had a few cuts as did my arms, and my left hand had a broken knuckle. I did not like doctors then already, as they were still trying to kill my mom with their drugs. They got it right about a years later…. Anyway, patched myself up, no problem. Or so I thought. My Pinkie knuckle healed wrong and the finger could not bend. Ok. […]

  5. Our Drugged up Society

How the hell did we get here? Working on two philosophies to see how we got here. First is not looking where you fell, but where you slipped. Funny enough this led straight to the second philosophy, find the source. For this particular slip we need look no further than: Psychiatry . These “doctors” are on the forefront of our legal drug dealer trade, i.e. The Medical Profession. While at the moment everyone seems to be on about Big Pharma, let’s take a look at this branch of the […]

  6. HOW TO TELL…..

HOW TO TELL IF YOU’RE SOUTH AFRICAN …. You call a bathing suit a “swimming costume” or a “cozzie”. You call a traffic light a “robot”. You call a sandwich a ‘sarmie’ You call an elevator a “lift” – but asking for a ‘lift’ doesn’t mean you want an elevator – you actually want a “ride” You call a car hood a “bonnet” You call a car trunk a “boot” You call a pickup truck a “bakkie” “Van” isn’t a vehicle – he’s the butt of some […]

  7. My Rhino Wars – The Flat Tire and the Lion

The Flat Tyre and Lion Because the APUs are the last people to get funds we had been patrolling with really wrecked tyres for weeks. Our spare was absolutely useless at this stage. In the early hours Johannes and I were glad to see a lion in the thick bush, for exactly 2 minutes. A few meters down the road we got another flat. The procedure we had by now perfected was to get the small battery charged air pump out and just keep on stopping every now and then to inflate the almost useless […]

  10. I started this puzzle with my wife during the winter holidays. It took us almost three weeks to complete (intermittent puzzling) and it was so good! We played a lot of music while doing it and talked about all kinds of stuff.

We felt so good that I got four more puzzles.

  11. Arches National Park, 500 pieces, Canyonlands Natural History Association. 4 hours. I got this puzzle when we visited Arches and Canyonlands last year (great parks, highly recommend). The very long time is partly from being out of practice and partly from the pieces being so varied in shape it was often hard to find the next piece. #jigsawpuzzles #nationalparks

  12. Alright. Yesterday I was 99.9% convinced they'd also lost a couple of my pieces, but one last trawl through the other box turned them up.

Ending the weekend with a bit of closure, phew 😅

  13. Took this photo a little while ago intending to caption it "so far so good" but now it's now and I'm onto the harder bits and half the cat fur is still in the other puzzle box and you know what never mind 🤦‍♀️

  14. Puzzle on the left, I let my mam borrow to try and keep up her #SpeedPuzzling skills. She wrote all over the box (thanks mam) and then proceeded to share it with my grandma, who somehow accidentally got the pieces mixed up with her own puzzle on the right.

Now both puzzles have just been sitting here waiting for me to find time to sort it out. I have high hopes for this weekend 😅

  15. It’s all fun and games until it’s Dalmations

Decades ago my mother and I—but mostly her—got really into jigsaw puzzles. The puzzles being tackled grew bigger and bigger, as the size of the pieces grew smaller and smaller. We started buying puzzles that had higher quality die-cutting. …and things started getting out of hand, with me finding puzzles that had large areas of blue sky, or the top half of the image was various clouds. But still, these puzzles were defeated with brutal precision: corners, borders, sort by colors/patterns, divide and conquer.

I think the tipping point was when someone found a puzzle of 101 Dalmations. In a snow scene. It might have been die-cut from both sides with the backside printed solid white. (For you non puzzle-nuts: That means you can’t even tell if a piece is face-up or -down.) I think that’s the only puzzle that ever went back into its box unassembled.

I also think there’s a lesson in there somewhere about escalation and turning something fun into a chore.

Fortunately, I think we learned the lesson before I had to buy one of these, https://www.amazon.com/Beverly-Micro-White-Jigsaw-Puzzle/dp/B008DCQE3O
