Blaming Israel for antisemitism is not merely an act of cowardice, it touches on multiple antisemitic tropes and then concludes that *any* action is justifiable:
- It says that Jews living their lives in London, Australia, France or the US hold loyalty to Israel, the Dual Loyalty trope. It's a way to call Jews outsiders/intruders and not need to treat them as "real citizens" or even "real neighbors".
- It holds all Jews responsible the actions of any of them. It's the same ism as holding all Muslims responsible for the actions of terrorists, or holding all people of Chinese decent responsible for the actions of the CCP.
- It's Whataboutism. It changes the topic from murder and discrimination to something else.
- It's often directed harassment- As we see on Babka, it's often directed at Jews, showing it's not a defense, but a weapon antisemites use to further traumatize Jews.https://zeroes.ca/@Geoffberner/116491163609980796

Steven Del Duca has been very outspoken against antisemitism and supportive of the Jewish community in Toronto and across Canada, but he's been largely ignored by the Federal government, who has taken a more, let's say "European" approach.

The new NDP president, Niall Ricardo, greeted last fall’s ceasefire in Gaza, which included a plan to prevent Hamas from rebuilding its military capability, by posting: “The only entity that needs deradicalization and disarmament is the one committing genocide: Israel. Zionism is the sin, genocide is the crime.”

was released after 483 days January 2025. He was released after738 days just recently in October 2025. They were held separately and in solitude and for the first time they sat down for a joint interview. Albed had said in that interview that she wasn't able to watch stories of other survivors. Though what changed for her was when former hostage Romy Gunen revealed recently that she had been sexually assaulted repeatedly by terrorists before being transferred underground with other captives.
Arbel had said about listening to Romi describing her experience. She said this, "I went through this from the beginning to the end of my captivity."

PM Carney says Canada was complicit because it "stayed silent" about the Holocaust, but it didn't stay silent. Canada's policy towards Jews wasn't neutrality; it was hostility, then and now.
While Carney talks about new laws and comissions, his antisemitism envoy role remains unfilled after months. It's the veneer of care without any actual substance or urgency at a time when antisemitism in Canada is at an all time high.
And in this framing, he and the Liberals have sadly ceded the moral high ground around antisemitism to the conservatives, who speak plainly and openly about what's going on in Canada right now.

Why do I use the word antisemitism instead of simply saying Jew-hatred?
Many people say that "Jew-hatred" is clearer and more straightforward, but there's a reason I choose antisemitism instead.
The term antisemitism was popularized in the 19th century and later embraced by the Nazis because it sounded academic and allowed hatred to pass itself off as science.
I use the term antisemitism because it reminds me that Jew-hatred rarely appears honestly; it uses coded language, conspiracy theories, and the cover of "critique" or "debate."
The word antisemitism contains a warning that Jew hatred takes on the appearance of virtue and social justice of its day and we must learn to recognize it even when it changes its name.

Emboldened, the ugly reality of these protestors who hide behind the cause of Palestinian liberation to hide their hatred for Jews becomes more blatant.
Now they're openly attacking Jewish institutions on campuses directly, demanding de-funding Jewish religious institutions, disallowing Jews who have taken trips to Israel, and even going after Jewish dining halls.
The situation at Columbia is just an example, as it's happening at many US and Canadian institutions, and has been going on for years before October 7th and the war. I remember calls at Rutgers to defund Hillel in 2021 (link below to that as well).

Until that moment when they accused me directly of killing babies and invoking the original antisemitic trope going back 1,000 years, one could argue that they were protesting what they felt was a legitimate injustice. While I don't agree with them on that, there's an argument to be made about it.
Once they began yelling something antisemitic at me, that's when their true motive was made undeniable. This isn't about the CEO, or any charity, or even about Palestinian liberation- it's about their view of Jews, all Jews, being child killers- no different than the same accusation as it appeared in England a thousand years ago.
I have the video on my phone. I haven't uploaded it anywhere because my issue is more the way their hatred makes me feel unsafe, rather than about them specifically.
If you want to see them, I'm sure they'll be back, since it was afternoon on a Friday. The Indigo was the one on Burrard I believe (but I may be wrong)

Yesterday, as I was walking in downtown Vancouver, I saw some people outside an Indigo bookstore holding signs saying that shopping at Indigo was supporting genocide. This is the same kind of crap that I see all the time online, so I confronted them about why exactly we should avoid Jewish owned businesses, and what other Jewish owned businesses they were targeting.
I decided to record the interaction for my own safety.
I spoke with on of them for a few minutes, and as I began to dismantle his claims, he became more intense, demanding I answer his questions, then cutting me off when I tried to do so.
After a few minutes of this, and them getting closer to me recording me as well (which is fair, I was recording them), I realized the conversation was pointless, put my phone down and walked away. As I did, they (all of them) yelled "You kill babies!", which is a reference to Blood Libel, a well known antisemitic trope.

The union representing the Vancouver Public Library has voted to public ally support the BDS movement, a movement that has the destruction of the state of Israel as a goal according to its leadership, and has been linked to terrorist activity both in Israel and in the US.
This should be unacceptable and unions who vote to align themselves with terrorist organizations, especially those related to the public sector, should face government oversight and scrutiny.
In addition, the union is putting on workshops around investment.

American Jews should be terrified.
This article outlines how American teachers, by the tens of thousands, are working to indoctrinate public school children against "Zionists" (a dog whistle often used against Jews), working together to figure out how do stay "in the lines" , while we see the curriculum being changed in many jurisdiction to distort the truth and allow for antisemitic lessons to be taught in the open (something not mentioned in this article but I've reported before).
While I don't agree with the reporter on the concern about "Gender ideology", the content of the reporting is concerning enough that we need to take this seriously, while Jews still have any home at all.
